Who? Me? I disressemble that remark. Talk like that could besmudge my reparations. I'm just trying to hep them. They are looking for some place where the grass is greener.
Around here it's bluer, so if my conkulations are correct I'm doing them a flavor by couragousing them to look elseplace. Most folks in other places march to a different drummer. Here we just fiddle around. So trust me on this, find a place where you will be happy and where you'll be far away from any land that is for sale in this part of the county. Remember, even the indians didn't want to live here, they hunted and left and figured anybody who wanted to stay was a crazy sod.

Thanks Yvonne's hubby! Farmer Willy, my husband's family IS from Kentucky..........Olive Hill, Ashland and Moorhead to be exact. We were wanting a place farther in Kentucky He has always talked about wanting to go back there to live. I'm just wondering why you don't want anyone else down there in your beautiful state? If my state showed alot of promise for others to come there to live, I think I would be "inviting" everyone I could here. Unfortunatly, Ohio doesn't have much to offer anyone anymore The taxes are high, land prices are high and not very good employment opportunities.

Same reason I don't tell where the best fishing hole is, where the deer are crossing this year and where I've got my 'sing patch. Besides, who wants all them foreigners from other states coming in and crowding up the restraunt on Friday all you can eat fish night. A deep fryer can only turn out x number of hush puppies at a time. And besides they ain't that good no way.

Not that I'm thinking about moving there, but what can anyone tell me about the Clay / Jackson County area of KY. I've been researching family in the area and am curious about the area and what would have lured them from the Asheville NC area in the 1840's.

OH has twice the people KY has when KY gets filled up then they will have all the problems they have in OH quote))Unfortunatly, Ohio doesn't have much to offer anyone anymore The taxes are high, land prices are high and not very good employment opportunities quote) I could add a few things but the OH folks already have me on their hit list so I defer. My family on my moms side goes way back in Carter county I spent quite a few years living 30 min from Grayson my Grandpa is about 15 min from Grahn KY where I went to kindergarten for a year before they closed down their school and "consolidated".

Well I gotta post here since I was forced to live here in western Ky for about 30 years now . It is hot and humid in the summer cold and wet in the winter Spring and Fall only last about 3 days each way . So many rivers and lakes that by the time you decide where to go fishing the day is gone . So few deer and turkeys people hit them with their cars because they know it will be a mile or two before they see another .. Stupid grass out in the pasture grows so fast the cows can't eat it all so I have to mow it twice a year.. This is a really bad place to live..Might be better next year if I get that 100 acres next to me..

The worst part is their are no jobs to be found in rural eastern KY, I guess if you lived around the big cities you could find one but not back in the hollers.

It is breathtakingly beautiful here in the coal fields of eastern Ky. Unfortunately, there is little work to be found unless you work in the coal industry. There is a pretty bad drug problem here in Martin County but I'm sure we don't have the corner on that market. I live in Inez which is the county seat in Martin County. The "good ole boys" politics set my teeth on edge. It seems as though people would rather continue doing things they have always done even though it is plainly not working, rather than try something new. Almost as though bettering oneself is not important. I'm sure not everyone here is of this mindset, just a lot of the people I have come in contact with.
It is sad to see children miss out on opportunities for a better life because their parents don't care to try a new way of doing something. But there is no lack of complaining about their station in life. It is frustrating to deal with. But I am off the subject. You don't have to have your vehicle inspected here but insurance is much higher than it is in La. where we moved from. You can wear a side arm here and only need a permit if it is concealed. I like that. I don't know much about the rest of the state. I have ridden though a good bit of it and know what it looks like but that is only scratching the surface when you are considering a move. I hope you like it wherever you land. Not much more miserable existance than hating where you live.
