Thanks for the info. No I didn't just move to the country. Actually I was raised on a small farm in the Arizona Desert and have just moved to a small town in Southern Texas. It's quite a change as I'm not use to the grass, trees, and bugs like they have here. But I do love it here. It's so much nicer than living near a large city. It's kinda funny everyone talking about dogs barking being annoying because these Katiedids drown out my dogs (LOL).

Girl, I moved here last summer and for the first time I'm hearing those same dang bugs - they drive me crazy!! One reaches a crescendo that sounds like sheet metal being cut, and the other one sounds like a racoon chittering - all freakin' night long.... they are sooo noisy and annoying.

Still like them better than sirens and bass speakers thumping...

Pam <------------ did NOT encounter these horrifically loud bugs in Houston!

LOL I know what you mean they bother my wife also quite deafening as we have a large maple on the north side of our bedroom full of em. They dont bother me as much I can sleep thru any natuaral sound the only thing that bothers me is if I hear Boom box "music" radios Tv or have artificial light on. I had up to 10 roosters at a time before last summer and they never bothered me a bit.The neighbors in the distance have dogs they bark on occasion the coyotes yelp like crazy and the owls hoot have seen 4 owls on my 2 acres at once but I sleep like a baby. How did that saying ever come about reminds me when my babies were little they kept waking me up all thru the night. LOL

EDITED MY PREVIOUS POST TO SAY:

I should have said doesnt make it right to keep doing it nomatter what else changes. I think alot of the freedoms and privileges we enjoy in the country are really just because there is no one there to compain about them. When people move in, our freedoms diminish.

I agree farms deserve protection. I would be throwing a bigger fit than pyrnad if a neighbor tried to stop me from raising livestock. But she never said her neighbors wanted her to stop farming, they only want some peace and quiet, and with the barn being so close it causes problems.

Maybe the neighbors (or pyrnad) could have come to a deal , such as the neighbors buying the barn and property it sits on, for enough money pyrnad could build a better barn somewhere else. Or who knows what, but pyrnad said : i was here first, deal with it, you should have known, i dont have to compromise, says so right here. Then the neighbors started stomping around swearing and breaking things. Much better solution, right ?

This is a Public service notice.
To anyone who moves to Alaska Please remember that it is VERY common for a neighbor to have about 60 to 80 dogs. Note this is NOT a typo 60 to 80 WORKING dogs.

I moved here and Yes I listen to to the nightly baying and the morning baying. It is loud. It is not a problem. One needs to Accept that there will be Noise no matter where one lives. I just met my neighbor last week. He asked if the dogs were a problem I told him NO it is the people who own one or two dogs that are a problem to me. Those dogs are free ranging dogs on my land with out permission. They will openly be shot. The sled dogs make noise but not problems.

Then I asked about the noise from my 50 0r 60 roosters. The sled dog owner Likes those. Oh his friend will be moving up this winter and bringing 70ish more dogs. Hey at least I have an outlet for all my day old sexlink male chicks. Dogs just love them and with all the mushers around I can share.

Well you thought wrong. but you are right about the price of grain.
straw is 17 dollars a bale.
grain say 12 dollars per 50 pounds

Barly, wheat, oats grow here well enough.

There are some cold days that I add heat for the birds but not often.

Alaska is 1/3 the size of the continetal US. That said there is a WIDE range of climates. More than twice the size of Texas

I do feed my birds salmon to increase protein. That for me is free.

In many jurisdictions, neighbors BY LAW are required to share the expense of a property line fence, including the cost of a survey to determine where the fence should go.

There it is, it used to belong to that property. Either way, the septic likely was there prior to all these sales and divisions and was, apparently, there with the original owner. That was the essential point before all the pointless semantics were brought forth.

As far as what the law says you can do, I recall quite a few people mentioning that just because it says you can doesn't mean you should. I've heard that somewhere else in other words as well. Goes back to the neighborly thing.

That all said, we already know that the guy who sold this parcel to these people was less than honest, didn't mention some arsenic in the well, would it be too much to say that it may not be beyond him to have given them a bum copy of a deed? Accidentally of course?

They don't pull chains like they used to...most surveying is now done with lazers, and is much more accurate.

And you don't have to shoot a straight line. You can stand outside of the property lines, start from a known marker, and shoot straight or work by triangulation.

Also, a deed is public record.

If a crew does not trespass, I fail to see how you could keep someone from surveying your property according to a public document.
Actually if you want a truly accurate reading you still get the transits and such out, at least that's what the big companies do in disputes anyway. The lasers and gps systems are ok if you want to ping or 'verify' some pins and the lasers are good for most everything else. I guess they could lean over from the other properties and dangle the targets. Then again, it brings back the question of the police being there and such...

But that is beside the point, if you are ok with this, can I pull your deed and send someone out to your place to survey it and then expect you, nay, force you to pay for the survey? You think that is right?!?

You can have any rights you want to have until you interfere/impose/deny someone else's rights. That's the simplest description I have ever heard and I heard it from my American History teacher in the 8th grade. Stuck with me since. I also learned from my parents that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. I think someone called some of these 'here first' attitudes moral squatter's rights? Was a good term.

I still can't see why people are getting so worked up over some other viewpoints or why so many have such pure ill-wishing hate for these people without ever having heard their side or met them. Particularly based on the history of this drama. Maybe we should just merge all these threads together for a HT book of the month. 'How to keep your cool when your neighbor can't' or... 'How to keep an open mind to see both sides' or even... 'Reasons to do your homework before you buy' or...

Pyrnad has said several times that she has paid for the survey that was just done. The neighbors want another one, and pyrnad says that they can pay for the NEXT one, if they do not believe the one that she paid for.

And, I ALSO do not see why folks are getting so bent out of shape!

I still have questions ..that were never answered. I won't ask those particular questions again ..because I believe that if they had wanted to answer them ..they already would have.

However ..since that time ..I've also asked questions of tsdave and of RDT (which ..by the way ..they responded to very politely and maturely).

So ..perhaps now might be a good time to ask Pyrnad a couple of different questions than before ..huh?
Mind you ..these are just questions! If Pyrnad refuses to answer these ..that is her choice.

Questions about the poisoned well:
..Did Pyrnad know about the arsenic in her neighbor's well before the ''barking dog - phone call'' incident?
..If Pyrnad and her neighbor got along OK before the 'barking dog - phone call'' incident (I seem to recall Pyrnad saying she took over baked goods and stuff) ..then why didn't Pyrnad tell her neighbors about the poisoned well then?

Questions about the ''barking dog - phone call'' that appears to have provoked Pyrnad's anger toward her neighbor:
..Why did Pyrnad get sooooo upset when the neighbor called her at 12:30 am?
..Did Pyrnad feel it was unreasonable to be awakened at that time of night?
..Did Pyrnad not hear her own dog barking?
..Is is reasonable to expect the neighbors should tolerate a dog (or dogs) barking "Every Night" ..but 1 phone call at 12:30am is intolerable?

Food for thought folks!

HUH ?? That's the first time I heard it explained that way!
Did anybody else previously interpret it that way?

Oh ..I can see exactly why! Some people become irritated when others disagree with their viewpoint. After they become irritated ..they blame the person who disagreed.

Or maybe its something else ..like they're hungry or something. Who knows? Getting 'mad' about it doesn't amount to a hill of beans though (Not you ..but a whole lot of others did! ).
I'm going to sleep now anyway ..going to work earlier than usual tomorrow and working OT.

..And probably going to make a few people happy to hear this .but won't be back until tomorrow evening !! JOY! LOL.

Here we call it a locust, but an actual locust is a green grasshopper.

Hey I have an idea, lets start an arguing thread about Mommydenise' insect noise.
Bet Pyrnad would enjoy the peace.
Jnap, I really wasn't trying to be a smart-elek on the insect. I just thought you might like to look there up and see if you agree.
No your the one that is off, when I was 7 I stood up in an auditorium full of folks and said I was going to be an entomolgist when I grew up as I got older herpetology became more fascinating but I have always observed and learned and read and have since taken entomology at the university.Cicada's call during the day time, katiedids call at night when I bet are friend is disturbed by them correct me if I am wrong?

Yes I knew about the well. They lived their for 2 weeks before we met, I told them about the well then. They had a water dest done the next day.
Calling that late at night made me angry, besause I saw them every day. no one mentioned the dogs bothered them, in fact they kept telling be how beautiful the dogs are. I heard no dogs barging, and until the pd showed up non were. FYI the message she left was 1 dog barking. When the dogs are protecting my flock and a predator is near they bark. And no it is not constant.
