Let me get this straight: this all started with them complaining about your barking dog?
You are living beside a couple of certifiable nut cases. I would be concerned for my animals (and myself). Don't let down your guard. I would not be surprised if they tried to exact some sort of bitter revenge.
You mentioned that they moved from another state? I wonder if they moved away to escape some similar problems there? Maybe they are being chased by lawyers/creditors there as well? I wouldn't be surprised! I bet their previous neighbours are breathing a sigh of relief though. Too bad you can't contact them.....although that might be a good idea if you looked into that. It could tell you what they are like and what it takes to be rid of them for good! Maybe some law authorities back there would be grateful for their 'capture'.....hehehehe

Too funny...I hope it is a "Jack". You should also find some peacocks, some guineas and some bantam roosters to add to the noise fest!
Good for you! Glad to see everything is starting to work out for you!

I have guineas.
They will go out this weekend. I hatched them in the incubator a month ago. I had another hatch this week, and more to hatch the end of the month. We are making a Special pen for them, behind the barn.
Yes the donkey is a Jack. He is TOO cute. Loves my daughter. When she goes to give him his treat and walks away he brays for 20 minutes. Lets just say he gets a lot of treats

pyrnad - did these people say they were from Lake George or the Lake George area? Lake George itself is fairly affluent even for year round residents. Be sure that the courts or your lawyer throughly investigates their financials in regards to your compensation. Don't let them automatically cry poverty!

Here is an update. A lawyer they wanted to hire called the surveyor. The surveyor gave him the whole story. Even about the attitude of these folks and that he had to call the pd while doing his job. Needless to say the lawyer will not be taking their case. They did not give him the whole story.

ROFL! Well, they must know that they've behaved badly or they wouldn't have omitted ugly truths from their lawyer

I raised peafowl when we lived in Tennessee. They do not do real well with the winters we have here in Maine. I like the call they have. It is the Guineas that drive me nuts. But I will deal with it to drive the neighbors nuts. I have 6 that will go out in their new pen tomorrow. I had 5 hatch the other day and more hatching as we speak. I also have 20 eggs due to hatch at the end of the month
If I could find some adult peafowl at a reasonable price I would get some. DH loved the ones we had.

Out of curiosity, how did you find out about this?
A lawyer's reasons for declining a client are generally kept confidential.

no more lawyer debates here! ms. prynad lives in a 'small town' area like me. trust me if you lie to one of us everyone is gonna hear about it including your momma & first grade teacher !
& these nasty bits are outsiders to boot so it is the grapevines duty to let others know what sort of folks they are, since their 'people' are not here to tell.
shoot girl give us a disposeable e- mail addy that you link to paypal & we will send you apple money for the jack, hope you let the guinea run free after they are flight ready & the nasties are gone. it mitigates the noise a bit & they are excelent tick hunters.

Pepper, you hit the nail right on the head. I am tired of the armchair lawyers. There are others who have asked for an update, so I am doing my best to do that.
Thanks for the apple money offer, but we got it covered. He east carrots and bread too.
Guineas will go free when flight ready, and be penned up at night.

Besides which, the lawyer may well have kept things confidential...but the surveyor is under no such constraints...

"Let me get this straight: this all started with them complaining about your barking dog? "
not exactly its about her 17 dogs she allows to bark all night because she thinks its scares off they coyotes.
Im not saying the neighbors are good fine people, but lets just look at it from their side, just for fun and equality , right ?
They move to a small piece of land, out in the country, an acre or so, all they could afford. They see the place, love it, and move right in. Now they find out they cant sleep because pyrnad keeps 17 dogs barking all night to scare away the predators. OBVIOUSLY they are going to be ----ed at pyrnad, not matter what the law says. They tell pyrnad her dogs are waking them up, but the pyrnad says she has been living there a while now and wont change anything. The neighbors get fed up and call the police. Police come and tell the neighbors theres nothing they can do because a law says livestock guard dogs are allowed (which i bet there are limitations if the neighbors were wise enough to lookup, and or ways to contest the useage). So the neighbors, after a bit longer of constant barking and regret for their situation tell pyrnad she best keep her and hers away from them or else. pyrnad now decideds to build a fence an property she already _admitted_ the neighbors thought belonged to them PROBABLY BECAUSE their septic system is located there ! And while pyrnad attempts to build this fence get donkeys (a very loud and obnixous animal) and other obnoxious animals and moves them near her barn right by the neighbors. Next pyrnad calls the inspectors to come out, and they find the septic system is (partially ?) on pyrnads land, and the neighbors cant even live on their land legally, and must pay pyrnad for dammages.
pyrnad admits from the beginning the neighbors thought part of her land belonged to them. They probably didnt know how to deal with land issues. They were probably told by the seller where the land went to and they believed him. The neighbors will probably end up sueing the seller.
Most of us would know not to go cutting trees were wrent for darned sure were on our land, but would newbies know ?
And for anyone who read my delima from the prevous threads, ill tell you how that worked out.
I filled a couple wagons with a bunch of junk parked it behind their house (on my land for sure) and spray painted in floursecnt orange to keep their dogs quiet. About a week later when i was comming home i heard them calling for me, so i went over to talk to them like civilized people. They told me they were having family over soon and wanted me to move my junk. They said all they wanted to do was sit out back peacefully without looking at signs and junk, i told them i want to work in my garden without listening to their dog bark constantly. I told them I wanted them to keep their dog inside or on the opposite side from me. They didnt really like the prospect, but they did. So i moved my junk and they moved their dog stuff and dog. Havent seen or spoken to them since, but i have been much happier without their barking mutt. They said to call them before taking such "drastic" measures in the future ;-)

From what I understand of the situation, Pyrnad did try to resolve the situation with the understanding that these neighbors were "newbies". Taking bread and eggs to a new neighbor doesn't exactly sound like someone who is trying to pick a fight. It's my understanding that she did try and reason with the new neighbors, explaining where exactly the property lines were. When the nghbrs. didn't like her explanation, I believe (w/o going back through all previous threads/posts) she even considered paying half of the cost to have a new survey done and the neighbors didn't like that idea either.
Now, while there are always two sides to the story, it does sound like pyrnad has tried to be understanding and acommodating with the new neighbors and this has not worked. They seem to be people for whom "it's my way or no way". We all know people like that, and you get to a point where it is useless to try working things out. She has tried to work through this w/o things getting out of hand, but when someone destroys property (whether unknowlingly - the trees perhaps, or willingly - the fence definitely), you need take things to a higher level.
Not trying to pick an argument with anyone, but it seems to me that pyrnad posted these issues because she needed a place to vent and explain where she felt safe and comfortable to do so. I don't think that she posted to see how many people can pick holes in her situation. It just kind of upsets me b/c I visit these threads to see how her situation is growing. I'd hate for her to feel like she cannot ask for empathy and suggestions b/c she doesn't want to have to constantly defend herself.
Just my 2 cents

And not to mention that they also want to ignore town ordinances concerning building permits (and had to be removed from town hall) and tried to drain hot tub across pyrnad's land even after code enforcement officer said "no" to hot tub in the structure and drain....then they got into it with the surveyor.....they are not "young" they are in their 50's and should know by now...and their property has "Farm and wood" listed as zoning type
property bullies....
