$33.87 per day or $11.29 each....but I couldn't take noisy neighbors like you find at hotels....and we have a lot more room here, so no stress....can't imagine the chickens, ducks, beagle pups and cats all in one hotel room, either. Guess I'll just stay put.

Course you can--just put a contingency for the sale of your home in the contract for the new one. Wow. If that were actually the case I would still be in my last house, since we went under contract on this one before we even put #1 on the market...

House/land hunting takes a lot of time and energy and cash. Makes you respect the pioneer's even more. Think about heading out to Colorado or Montana with just your wagon and a dream. That's roughing it.

When we were building our house we lived in a tent on the property. We were going to put up an old used mobile home, but zoning won't permit a new house to be built while there is an old one on the property. We were going to buy a travel trailer, but after sitting in a few while shopping, I realized that I would go nuts in a little space like that. With a tent, I get much more room. We put up a huge tent, a "beer tent" actually. Under that we kept a generator and various building tools as well as a 4 person (2person) tent that we slept in. I used the gas grill for cooking. Meanwhile, my husband built a two story shed for practice. We moved into that 12 x 16 structure after four months in the tent. We lived in the shed for another five months, then into the unfinished house. We would have had to buy the big tent regardless of where we slept, so the cost was for the little tent and some coolers.

With insurance and property taxes, I figured ours is $18 per day. I figured utilities based on our highest monthly bill considering that they'll probably be going up, but if based on our last years average utility bills, it would be $14 per day, for 5 people (sometimes 6).
