My mom swore by meat tenderizer for any insect bite or sting. She saw an operation one time when she was a nurse and the doctors used Adolfs Meat Tenderizer to disolve a calcium deposit on a persons vertibra. After that she didn't eat anything with the tenderizer on it!!

Any time I had an earache, my mom would cook an onion and wrap it in a cloth and put it on my ear. The heat from that would relieve the pain.

Epsom salts for soaking sore, infected, stubbed toes - my boys are always, incurably barefoot. Funny looking toenails? Rub Vicks on them every night. My son had toenails that grew really weird and this cleared them up. No prescription.

Clay facial mask for drawing out wounds that have pus, or are infected.

MSM, AniflexGL - for joint problems. I've had two knee surgeries, four severe ankle sprains, and also hip and shoulder problems due to an assortment of dramatic falls. These two things - and I'm PAIN FREE. I consider it a minor miracle that changed my life. I buy a pound of each - from Jeffers - months and months worth, for less than ten dollars each.

Upset stomach - aloe vera. Helps right away.

My son was born with smelly feet! The only infant I've EVER known to have smelly feet. They should be classified as WMD's. Two weeks ago I read about peeing on your feet to cure this - it is WORKING! I can't even begin to express the relief. I would have to wash his shoes every time we had to go somewhere, otherwise the smell would waft.

Hyper-active or nervous child? Anxious, or a worrier? Try chamommile liquid drops. My youngest son (drug baby) chamommile helped us through those first three years. I've also supplemented with inositol (b vitamin), BUT, if your child is ADHD, inositol will not help - but make the hyperactivity worse. Worked for my oldest, NOT my youngest!

Allergies or sinus infection - irrigating the sinuses with a mild saline solution.

Niki

Tobacco and spit for bee stings, vinegar for heartburn, a paste of willow tips for rooting hormone... Grandma knew all sorts of stuff. This is a helpful thread.

Baking soda and water for a paste on stings and bites, colgate works to relieve bee stings too. Use baking soda mixed with water for indigestion.
ACV a shotglass a day as a preventative for colds and such.
Gargle with ACV for a sore throat
Epsom salts to soak wounds and sprains
Asprin, crushed for tooth ache.
Borax soak and tea tree oil for fungus

Heard that vicks vapor rub works on nail fungus
Old wives tale for warts rub potato peel on wart and bury - tell no one. (haven't tried that one either, or this one) - morning urine for acne.

Swedish bitters for upset stomachs, gargling when a sore throat tries to come on, to ward off the flue , to detox. Great stuff, but very bitter.
raw onion for stings, witch hazel for itchy bites, dolomite for restless leg, sleepless nights, PMS, growing pains, for the pain that sets in after being at the dentist and the novocain wears off. GREAT STUFF, Puritan Pride does not carry it anymore, bummers.
Calendulae Salve, Arnika Tincture, Vit. E...and cabbage juice for stomach problems, like ulcers. And OLIVE OIL, and of course St. Johns wort oil. Oh my gosh, I better quit.

Took me a minute to figure out ACV = Apple Cider Vinegar. But, you're right, it's been a remedy for a looooong time. Well, I tried it awhile back......BLECCHH! SHUDDER! Guess I'll have to stick with chicken soup, lol.

I mix it with apple juice to make it easier to swallow. Being around an average of 60 children a day for half the year and I don't get sick, now the allergies are another story.

Here is a gross one from Foxfire (haven't had to try this one)
Tapeworm - starve the subject for a couple of days then have them inhale deeply over a bowl of warm milk. Eventually the worm will work it's way out to try and get to the food source through the nose. When this happens grab the worm and pull it out. YUCK! Plus what if the tapeworm breaks?

Let's see...
for a bee sting - apply a compress soaked in whole milk or cream
ACV in a warm bath for achy muscles
aloe gel for burns/skin irritations
I love to use Burt's Bees ResQ Ointment whenever my kids get an owie - it's the only thing they will let me use (and I plan on figuring out how to make it!)
of course, band aids work wonders for the kids, no matter what's wrong
olive oil or lemon juice in the ear for an ear ache (or garlic oil)
for allergies/colds, hot tea with star anise
local honey (taken every day) for allergies
for dandruff/itchy scalp - wash with baking soda in warm water, rinse, then apply a rinse of ACV diluted in warm water and let soak for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly

That's all I can think of for now...

For toe nail fungus use vick vapor rub or listerine. Soak toe in listerine for several days and the fungus clears up

For ear ache - pee in a paper cup and use an eye dropper to fill the ear up with pee, let it set a while then tip head so pee comes out and put in a little cotton. Must be from first pee in the morning and still warm......it actually works, but I won't tell you how I know...

1 tablespoon of Lecithin a day will lower cholesterol.

Saline wash for stuffy nose or to clear sinuses from allergies. Use a Netti pot it works best.

From my Grandma: the juices from canned peaches to cure constipation.

From my Dr: Vicks Vapor Rub on your oddly growing toenails. The RX they have for that condition messes with your liver, and he refused to give it out to just anybody. My dh got the RX(his were really bad) but the DR made him take bloodwork to check his liver function before and after.

Juice from lemons(not from the bottle in the produce dept) to disolve kidney stones.(from my SIL"s Dr after she had her surgery to remove them when they were too big for Rx to be effective)

Cigarette tobacco and spit on a bee sting(already mentoned)

Weighted blankets on a restless child who won't go to sleep. (Works for us, theres a study about it somewhere)

Pine salve for any skin problem, bacterial, PI, fungal, eczema etc.

Charcoal for diarrhea and any toxic exposure. Also ACV with hot pepper for diarrhea.

Valarian for 'nerves'.

Ginger tea for upset tummy. Mint tea works for some stomach upsets too.

Clove oil for toothache or mouth pain.

Hi dose vit C for allergies.

Uva Ursi for urinary tract infections.

Yaupon holly for asthma .

Hawthorne berry for cardiac support.

Dandelion root for diuretic.

These are what I could think of off the top of my head.

This happen today-----well let me say this, Sunday I got stung twice by a wasp, hornet or something--I didn't see it--thought it might be ground hornets because I was in the edge of the woods, but I was going on a camping trip and was in a hurry------I told my GF a few hours later that I had got stung and showed her where, because I could still feel a little sting--------Today I decided to see if I could find out where these --What Ever they are---were, so I eased into this area again--slooooooowly---you guessed it------I got stung 7 times-----as I was beating these hornets off me, my cell phone rang---it was my mother--------I told her I JUST got stung several times------She said put some Bleach on the stings---Never heard this one, but just happen to have a gallon sitting right there---Thinking I will try it------put the bleach on each sting--then went back into the woods and destroyed the hornet nest. I forgot about being stung until I read this post--Guess the bleach worked good because I have no pain from the 7 stings. Randy

Lemon juice from real lemons (not the bottled kind) for shiny hair. I tried it and it works!

Pam <----------- did it all through high school, then got too lazy to juice the lemons.
