Anyone interested in attending the Old Engine Show in Buckley Michigan the 3rd weekend in August?

Buckley is between Cadillac and Traverse City on M37. ..That is some great country on that strecth of M37 ..and the numerous events all appear to be things that any Homesteader would enjoy ..including grinding wheat into flour using an old gas engine ..shelling and grinding with a stone burr mill ..and on-site working blacksmith.

The link within states they have 2 separate primitive campgrounds available ..appears to be a very affordable $10 camping fee for the entire length of the event. Not sure how many sites at each campground ..will try to find out though.

Here is a link:

The Old Engine Show is a huge event up here. It's an inexpensive outing since the donation is the only money you have to part with. Everything else including the train ride is free. Well, concession food and drinks will cost. I enjoyed the old arts and crafts displays and demonstrations, but spent most of my time wandering around the vast flea market.

Well ..I'm going to the Buckley Old Engine Show ..today I was able to rearrange my weekend plans for the entire month. So ..the first 2 weekends and the last weekend of August are booked solid and I am unavailable for any type of get together ..but the third weekend I am now available for this Buckley event.

If anybody else decides to go ..we might see each other and not even know it. LOL.

Have fun.

Hey everyone,
I'm a former Michigander, does that count??

Probably won't be coming home this year, but hopefully next. Around Big Rapids would be great, as my brother has a farm in Remus.

Was there a for sure date and place for this year? I'd like to let my brother know about it. He's not a homesteader, but he has a dairy farm. (He also needs a wife, if you know of anyone who likes cows!!)

I find that it isnt only liking, or not liking cows that makes a good farm spouce. Its willingness to go years working 7 days per week, wearing raggy clothes, taking no vacations, and having very little leisure time.

very true on the 7 days a week factor.....
though he has pulled off a few vacations and gets some leisure time because the nieces and nephews come over and take over. Dad's also there.
His barn clothes can be quite, uhhhhh...stained/well-worn..... but he dresses up quite nicely when going out.

It's the smell factor, I think, that can cause issues. It permeates everywhere and everything. It takes me a couple days to get used to it again when I go back. lots of cleaning!!!

I'll be at the Buckley Old Engine Show this weekend ..with a rather large group of family members and friends.
It should be a very fun weekend ..even if it rains.

What DID happen to our get together? Did I miss something? I'd still love to get together, can we do it yet this fall? Anybody else out there still interested?
