I know this is very short notice, but there is a horse drawn equipment show in clair this friday, and saturday, June 30, and july 1st. http://www.ruralheritage.com/progress/index.htm
this might be very entertaining for all of our interests. I voted for gaylord, but I willl go anwere that gets the most votes between mackinaw, and midland.

Yesterday we went over to Gaylord and then down old 27 (it runs parallel and west of I75) south to Grayling going into campgrounds along the way. Suzanne, you are correct about Otsego Lake County Park. It is the best one with water activities available. Nicely laid out level campsites and not too close together. The pavillion, if we want to use it, must be reserved and has a fee - $50 for Otsego Co. residents or $60 for non-residents per day. Camping fees are $17/Otsego Co. residents and $19/non-residents per day plus a $3 vehicle permit. Campsites are reservable but not a particular site location.
The other one of the 6 we checked and liked was a "mom & pop" type, small but spread out rustic and modern (with electricity) campsites. (Can you tell I don't like campers piled on top of one another?) The only two possible problems with this one is the walking distance to the bathrooms from the tent area (My guess is 400 ft. - we didn't notice outhouses in that section) and no stream or lake for water activities. They had a volleyball net, horseshoe area, and tetherball set up and an older swing set. There is a large firepit area where people can gather around the fire. The price per day is $20 for electric sites and $16 for rustic. The ladies bathroom was clean with 2 shower stalls and 3 toilet stalls. If you have children, this one might be too "boring" but relaxing for some of us.
The two rustic state parks we drove into have a $10/night fee. Otsego Lake State Park is modern with electricity, showers, boat launch, swimming and picnic area. When adding the fees up, the total of vehicle permit, towed vehicle permit and camping rate is $38/daily. Seems expensive.
Then we noticed about 4 motels within 2 miles north of Grayling on old 27.

Weekends are good. I also think West MI is great. Along the Lake maybe? Overnight camping could be fun! What about Ludington SP?

The Ludington State Park is absolutely beautiful but keep in mind that it is a highly popular park and therefore reservations are needed in advance. But it definately is beautiful. The whole area is highly beautiful! People from Wisconsin could even come over considering they could use the Badger

Yeah lets do some "how to butcher" demos I really honestly could use the help in learning those kinds of things. We could have a pig roast lol

We need to pick a date before I can say if I'll be there. How about the first weekend in August, would work in with my family reunion in Mancelona that Sunday. We don't camp so will have to get with the program or get a room!! I can show you how to butcher a chicken if you bring the chicken, not sure the park would like us doing that though. I raise sheep and spin, have lots of wool and such to bring for folks to try. Be glad to share my wisdom not that I've got all that much.

Depends on the day that is picked, I'm booked for the 19th and possibly the 26th but am free the first two weekends for sure. We would only be able to come for the day due to chores.

I'd like to make it for one day, but that will depend on the date. If it's early enough in August, maybe I'll have an English Shepherd pup or two to bring along

Sounds interesting........I've got a sister up in Charlevoix.......so if we have it up north .....could also stop in for a visit there.......could only make it for the day though as we not only have animals to care for, but elderly parents......but the weekend sounds fine......anytime thruout August.
