Welcome to southern MO. We are about 35 mintues from WP...rarely go there as we are basically hermits!!! Like to hit Aldi's,the used bookstore and maybe eat Chinese every few months. As for the local fire department--ours has dues but we've never joined...seems futile anyhow as of the six places that have burned around here (in the 19 years we've lived here) all have burnt to the ground...and only one of the places was a newcomers. Insurance co. said they pay that fee anyhow. Only have one water tanker and then they just burn. Last place the guy had so much ammo in the place they couldn't get close anyhow!!!
We have had no problems here...we were farmers in MI and just kept to our simple ways here. Help out any neighbor we can, mind our own business, keep our dogs and livestock fenced. 'Bout the only thing residents didn't like was us making our land no hunting without permission; took a few years to convince them. DEE

I lived down there too, back in 78

Lived out by Alton too. Went to church out in the country thereabouts, 1/2 way from there and Peace Valley. Worked for Coke in W P. Found what peopel we neighbored with to be good enough, but we was not overly outgoing. by the time I got home from work, and got things done around home, it was time for bed. Like here in Ne Okla better, and NE Kans best

Thank you all for giving me personal insights from your experiences. We are good listeners and don't look down on the people we meet. They seem to offer good advice and want to be our friends. Hopefully we won't be run out of Ozark County!

I'm in Oregon CO too, outside of Alton and I really like it. Just need more website clients.
