The way I understood it, the fleas eat the salt and/or the baking soda and die....I could be wrong lol but that's what I recall reading. All I know is using the baking soda and vacuuming worked for us-- our 'infestation' wasn't the worst, though.

I also used the sevin dust method, worked fine for me.
