Dang! I'm sorry to have to miss this too. Thats the opening day of our new farmers market and as market master I need to be there. Thanks for going to all the trouble to set this up though - and I hope everyone has a wonderful time!

Hello! I'm new to this forum but we have a homestead in Greene County. We'd like to come--my husband and I and our three kids.

I'll *probably* make carrot souffle.

Let me talk it over with my husband. If we cut across country it really isn't that far. I was looking at the website & it said it had a group grill. If we come there will be a total of 9 of us. Will let you know soon as I can.

Glad to see so many can make it so far, and hope the rest are able to!

I am headed out of town for our first EVER week long family vacation (visiting family in Georgia, but heading over to Tybee Island for a couple days while down there...my children have never seen the ocean, and they are all so excited!)

Anyway, when I return, I will do a formal head count, and food count. That will give others time to respond, and those of you who need to check on it, time to do so.

I'd love to get the information on that weekend in Gentryville.

Sasha - where in Greene County are you? We live north of Indy, but have a 530 acre farm northwest of Worthington.

For those of you who don't know, Linton, Indiana (in Greene County) has the largest 4th of July festival in the state...complete with beard growing contests, and watermelon seed spitting competitions! Sounds like good old-fashioned fun to me! I haven't been yet, but hope to this year, since it's near our farm down there.

Anyway, I'll touch base the week of June 12th with headcount and food list. I'll be thinkin' of ya'll while we're in Georgia!

Have fun in Georgia, Michelle.

We live in Bloomfield, not too far from Worthington. My husband actually goes through Worthington to get to his work--he works at Boston Scientific in Spencer.

Linton's Freedom Festival is fun! It's a family tradition of ours. If anyone is planning on going I'm game to meet up and watch the parade together. A word of advice--bring water! It is always extremely hot and the fast food places on the parade route are very crowded with long lines.

Oops!!!

I just realized, in cross referencing everything, that we DO NOT have the Westbrook Shelter, we have the TRAILSIDE SHELTER!!!!! (I had wanted the Westbrook, but it was booked - sorry about that!!!!!!)

Back from GA - great trip! Just went to Murfreesboro TN to meet halfway to trade kids back! (Long drive!) Would have posted sooner, but MIL is in hospital...

OK, Here's what I have...
  • We will be in the Trailside Shelter.
  • We will plan on setting up food starting at 11am, and eating around 12pm.
  • We'll wrap up around 4pm.

Here are the attendees...
  • Momof4, plus 5, bringing meat tray, cheeses, condiments, and bread, 5 gallons of lemonade and possibly also a pie
  • ericjeeper, mentioned burgers
  • Taylor, deviled eggs, baked beans, apple pie
  • Jerr4, plus wife, potatoe salad
  • Gailann Schrader, plus son
  • Clovis and wife
  • lonelyfarmgirl, plus 2, potatoes or slaw (depending on what you have)
  • live on land, plus wife, pasta salad
  • sasha, plus DH and 3 kids, possibly carrot souffle (that sounds interesting!)

Maybe's...
  • jena
  • midwsthomestead
  • Wendy, plus 8

I think we'll have a pretty good turn out, at least 25, as many as 50!!!

If everyone can bring a side or dessert, along with burgers or hot dogs and buns, I think we will have PLENTY of food. Bring your own drinks...I will bring 5 gallons of lemonade and will have the stuff for lunchmeat sandwiches too. I also have Shaffers to keep food warm, so I will bring those.

Everyone will also need to bring their own plates, cups and silverware...

I'll bring the charcoal for the grill, and my digital camera for pics to post next week.

I will bring a jar, and if everyone could pitch in a dollar or two for the shelter rental, I would appreciate it!

I will bring nametags for everyone, so we all know who each other is...since we only talk online.

I will make up a sign to put in front of the shelter, so everyone knows they are in the right place too.

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!!

Have *FUN* Hoosiers!!

I haven't posted to this thread not knowing if my wife and I would be able to make it or not.

Our being there was dependent on the sale of a house we have here in Florida. Just finished remodeling (as usual it took longer than anticipated) so it's not sold yet.

We bought a place outside of Bloomington a little while ago and hope to be snow birds befor retiring there. Kind of the reverse of most but .........

Anyway I'm sure it'll be GREAT, looking forward to pictures.

I've been checking the weather religiously, but who knows the way Indiana weather goes... Weather.com says mostly sunny and 83 for Saturday down there, but 2 days ago, it said thunderstorms!

xbob ~ yes, that is a little backwards! Sorry you can't make it! We will definitely share pics!

I will not be able to make it. I am off Saturday, but have to work Friday night. By the time I get up and down to the park, you all will be heading home.

Have fun.

If the people going there want some things to see in the area I could help out a little. I will show a couple of examples.
Down the road a little in a town called Worthington in a park is a very big tree limb.
It is just a small section of the limb as the whole thing would just be to big.
I tried to post some pictures but I must have messed up as they did not post. but here are some links hope they work

I know of a few other things to see if anyone is interested. Like a covered bridge and a large train bridge (sort of famous).

Wishing you-all a great time!

Hey all you Hoosiers!
I just want to wish you a great time at pot-luck campin'. I won't be coming up because it's a bit of a drive from the Ohio River here, but I can't wait to hear about it.
I'll be going over to the Hardy's Poorfarm in Gentryvill here in the S. on Saturday July 1st for a Countryside/S. IN/N. KY homesteaders get-together.
Best Wishes and good luck with the weather!

Faed and I are just 5 miles away (down SR43). Unfortunately we won't be able to make it as we've got a lot of work to do to get ready for our wedding the following Saturday. Hope you all have a good time though.

If you should happen to see a (very fat) fox lounging around or looking like he's going to head south would you mind filling him with lead please? Bugger's been terrible to our ducks/geese/turkeys.

I am headed down that direction tonight...we have a farm Northwest of Worthington in Greene County, where Clay and Owen counties meet Greene County. We're spending the night in the farmhouse there, going horseback riding before the potluck, and spending the afternoon walking the trails at McCormick's Creek before we head back home.

My husband and one daughter aren't going to make it (4H shooting practice for my oldest daughter got in the way), so it'll be me and 3 kids...hopefully there are some others who have boys around 9yrs...my son is the only boy, and LOVES having other boys to play with!

I'll bring my map of Greene County, hopefully someone can show me where that tree is since we are down there a lot! Sounds pretty cool! We know where the train truss is, but haven't made it over there yet.

I probably won't be back online before tomorrow, so I'll look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Don't forget, its the Trailside Shelter!

Looks like we'll have beautiful weather!!!!

!
It is located right in the town of Worthington in a park there. While I was there in April we had lunch at a nice little dinner there in Worthington and then drove over to the park to see that tree.
I was with about 20 members of my family in 5 cars lol. We was just going around sight seeing as my wife and kids had not see a lot of stuff around there yet.
