We're going on a night hike to be at Whitaker Point at sunrise tomorrow morning, while we are over in that area I'll see if I can't find out where I got the idea that there were horses available at Ponca. Speaking of Whitaker Point...that would be something we could do if we choose Steele Creek for the fall get together. Some of you might have seen the Arkansas post card with the rock outcropping over a forrested valley? That's Whitaker Point. Well worth the hike.

LaDonna, if I remember correctly there was another part of the park that we did not check out while we at Steele Creek -- guess I could do that tomorrow also if time allows.

Dave and Annie -- there is something about these hills that just make you want to put down roots...or atleast keep coming back. Thanks for sharing some of ya'lls exploring with the rest of us.

Leslie, I just love your willing spirit...as far as I could tell Steele Creek is flat valley land - you would not have a problem getting around there as long as it wasn't wet. And I seem to remember that bathroom there was just like the one at Tyler Bend -- it likely has an outlet too.

Keep the ideas coming.....fall is only 4 month away....

Hugs

Rannie, turns out Nonk was mainly interested in sharing the adventure with you and your family. Since we've already done the night hike for a sunrise view before on our own, he's decided we'll wait until ya'll can make it to do the next one. Or we'll just wait and to it at the fall campout, if it's at Steele Creek.

Corky, according to the Arkansas department of game and wildlife there are no lions and tigers in Arkansas outside of zoos and traveling animal shows. Does not matter that someone got a picture of one with one of the motion senser cameras...it must have just escaped from a zoo or traveling animal show. That was a panther...not a lion or tiger come to think of it. We don't have panthers either. And there might not be any ivory billed woodpeckers here either....

Ya'll are getting me excited about the possiblity of the fall campout being at Steele Creek...hope if their are any protestors they speak up soon so I'm not too disappointed if another site gets the majority of the votes.

Hugs

If you're looking for a reference for horse backing riding tours, check with the Buffalo Outdoor Center in Ponca. They can tell you who currently has stables.

Hey hey! Some of Corky's gifts are in the ground and happy.

There is a little, teeny, tiny plant on the left side of the picture. Don't know if it will make it, but may as well give it a chance. Ha! Watch it turn out to be the biggest of them all.

Mmmmm.... tasty tomatoes, on the way.

The onions will go in the ground tomorrow.

Thanks again, Corky!

Thanks mamabear...maybe that's where I remember something about horses. Also a great idea. If we can find someone with a stable of horses to hire, maybe we can tell 'em when and how many and they can bring the horses to us at the campout? Wouldn't that be grand. Let me correct that...maybe they could bring horses to those who plan to ride horses.

Beth and Neil were at a campout at neice Tina's yesterday. If Neil isn't to busy with his construction business, and she doesn't have a planned festival or craftshow for the selling of her soaps and lotions, they are planning on coming to the fall festival. The new born baby girl that was going to be a surprise at last fall's campout is now 9 months old. Hope the rest of you get to meet her before she starts school.

Speaking of Corky, and the nice plants she share with us at the campout...I selected one I'm don't know what is. It sort of looks like a jade plant but not quite. It's not the tomatoes, or onions, or christmas cactus, or the aloe vera. But then when Corky was getting a aloe vera from her greenhouse for Russell she sent him home with a Christmas Cactus...sorry Cork I couldn't resist. I got them all transplanted and they are all doing great. I potted everything but the walking onions...I found a place in the garden when they can do quite a bit of walking before they get in trouble with any neighboring plants. Well that was until hubby planted his Baker Creek Castor Bean plant over by them...never know they might just make great neighbors.

Can we pick a date for the fall get together yet? I was thinking the weekend after Labor day? More likely to be less crowded...but still warm enough?

Hugs

The weekend after Labor Day should be a "dead time" for campgrounds -- and thus make selection and reservation less of a problem.

We would favor that.

Can we schedule some rain that far in advance?

I have no preference for dates or places..just let me know what everyone decides..

as far as horses, well, I have a deal with all horses..I won't ride them and they have agreed not to laugh at me..so far it's worked rather well. I admire them from a distance..like about 10 yards....over a fence..

LaDonna, of course someone will let you know, you're the Treasurer~~and my ride.

I guess I'll just have to start that threatening thread.

Let's see how many days is it until September 8th?...hmmm better start making my list it's only 115 days away!

Hugs

I kinda like the idea that there is a "threat" of a September gathering. Picture the headline "Homesteaders Threaten to Gather in Vast Numbers at Local Campground"
