My Hubby drives around 58 miles each way, takes him about an hour. About 9 months out of the year he rides his Motorcycle and gets twice what we do in the car. Saves alot in gas when the weather is good.

About 50 miles each way and takes about that many minutes. Most is beautiful country driving. It gives me time to gear up in the morning & unwind at night.

It's 42 miles each way for me. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I love it when I get home and drive down our peaceful lane to the house.

23 miles each way. But the ride home is nicer cause I go the backroads home rather than icky highways. Takes me a 1/2 hour.

Variable- 2 mi/10 min bike ride to local cottage hospital up to 26 mile/30 min drive to big city hospital. And I pay $3.20/gal gas. Hope to find a shorter drive to any future work in ALabama or wherever we land. ONe more reason to go ahead and retire.

90 miles each way, 180 miles round trip.
Usually I can get away with working 3 days a week, So I drive there and back Tuesdays, then I drive in on Thursdays, stay "someplace" overnight (right now it's my mom's old house but who knows once that gets sold) and do an in-town commute on Fridays to save gas. I'm thinking of switching to Wed-Thurs-Fri to save even more gas, but I just HATE to be away from home for 2 3 days and 2 nights.....there's just no jobs where I live that pay what I can make if I do the drive....and we are still paying off some unavoidable bills, so until that is done, I drive and drive.

about 45 minutes one way.

about 2 1/2 hours a day

Sucks now that gas went to $2.95 per gallon this week.

Plus think of all the time wasted.

16 miles each way, but takes anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour depending upon traffic.

I hope you people that drive far to get to work. Know that you can deduct the mileage from your taxes. Right now it's .445 cents a mile. So using this exaple.

It's 51.61 a day, 258.10 a week, or 13,421.00 a year. That is what the IRS says it's costing you to drive to work. So what you do is keep a mileage log and take that deduction at the end of the year.

Used to drive 62 miles one way to work and did that for almost 7 years. It sure made for a long day, with a lot of those days leaving before sunup and getting home after/or near sundown. Got transferred about 2 yrs ago, now my commute is 12 miles one way. I had a "gut feeling" that gas prices were going to sky rocket and took the transfer when the opportunity presented itself.

22 miles each way. Usually takes 20 minutes. Traffic jam would involve 3 lane wide farm equipment on a 2 lane road. It can get real interesting during Spring planting and Fall harvest! Otherwise its a matter of staying alert for people trying to kill you with their vehicle...you know, running stop signs and red lights, passing on yellow, extreme high speed. When I'm on the road I have high school kids on-coming and college kids headed the same direction. And then there's the weather i.e. snow, ice, blinding rain, fog, hail, sleet, high winds. And avoiding suicidal deer. Life in the boonies still has gridlock beat all hollow.

Last year dh was driving 2 1/2 hours one way, a good share of that in heavy traffic. He's thrilled to be able to carpool for just an hour with his new job!

Me, it's about 10 miles from here to work.

About 9 miles one way, takes about 15 minutes. About half is windy country roads. I drive a 65 Mustang. Gets about 14 or 15 mpg. Not as good as I'd like, but worth it to drive the Stang everyday!!

30 miles/30 min. 9 1/2 months of the year...think of the money I'll save this summer! Bad weather, the time doubles.

About 15 miles. Takes about 20 minutes. I have to be at work at 6:30 a.m., so there's very little traffic then. We're still a relatively small populated county, so even "bad" traffic is not bad.

11.5 miles to work, around 13 minutes if you drive 75 mph on the interstate. I've been trying to drive 65 pmh to increase gas mileage so it takes a bit longer. And like Ann in NW IOwa said, deer and traffic have an effect. I should add soft roads to that, we have more frost boils in the roads this year than I've seen before.

Stanb999, what tax form is that? Do you have to be able to take deductions to take advantage of that? I'll have to check into it.
