It's not that big a deal to become a legal registered independant trucker. Get a one ton dually preferably with a diesel and you can haul a 2 car trailer all over the place. Once you are a real trucker there are websites that you can log onto and pick and choose what jobs you want to do. Plan it right and you make big $$$$ as long as you don't mind sitting and staring at the road going by all day. I know a guy that hauls 2 cars and 2 motorcycles at a time, the F350 diesel doesn't use much more fuel with one car or four, and he gets about $700 each running from Mass. to FL. He'll pick up 4 vehicles up north, drop them all off on the way to FLorida, maybe pick up a VA to GA quickie on the way and then he's got 4 more scheduled to come north once he gets there. All told 7 days work equals about $5000 in his pocket. Not bad if you can afford to be away from home.

A note on tires. Those old Vise ply tires they used back then must have been very stiff,6ply side wall or something.
Do you mean Bias Ply? Pure rubber-- so soft they always look "flat" and driving with them on the front end-- well, talk about mushy feeling!! The radial tires we use now are a lot stronger and actually wear better.
How do I know? My ex never maintained a vehicle that I was driving, and he had me driving aclunker that needed a front end alignment.Consequently, we were buying tires every month.( wouldnt pay for an alignment, but would buy tires every month) Ony with the bias ply on the front end, did I feel like I was driving a car that "felt" nearly the same way as the ones I learned on! Bias ply tires affect the way a person steers, starts moving, etc. But, they are a lot less expensiver-- IF you could still find them!

I like my all-weather radials easier to see if the tire is low on air, and I feel much more in control when I drive, But, the bias ply were great for winter driving, that is, after the tire warmed up and lost the flat spot! :banana02:

one ton 460

We have one we bought new in 1989 its setting just out side the studio now. Gets on a good day 8 miles to a gallen. It only has 70 thousand miles on it who can afford to drive it. It has not been offf the farm in 3 years and that was to the shop. The tires are going bad from not being driven. Lilibality insurance just personal is $900 per year have no idea what commercial insurance would cost. And would I take a truck that I know on a long haul with a trailer with a load belonging to someone else that is this old no way
