I thought of you when I read that post.
The closest motel is in Marshall I think. I don't even know if it is open.
There is another one back north on 65 not too far. It is small and I don't know the name of either one. Otherwise it is an hours drive to one.
So sorry that happened to you. I hope you can come up with another plan.

bostonlesley, So BNB is going to abandon us (grr at the caribbean, ummm, maybe I can fit in your suit case? Grrr!) What makes you think you can't be there or be square? I have a conversion van, and while it's not a MOTORHOME, it's comfortable and you have two strapping homosexuals to lift you up, in the van and a WHOLE bunch of people at your beck and call to get you where and what you need. SOOOOO, don't worry about it. Just get your butt down here. What, you think you're special? Well you are!

Let me be more like Corky...let me be more like Corky...let me be more like Corky....
Thank you Dennis and Don for picking up the slack once again and making it possible for our soon to be in person friend Bostonlesley to share the weekend with us. Dennis....talk to me about strappling when we are at the campout okay? love you guys. And we don't have to tip you, right?
One of the admirable things about our campouts is the thing we all seem to have in common is our make it work get it done attitude. It might not be Martha Steward pretty but it'll be functional. Just for those who do not know me yet -- Martha Steward is my hero....this seems to always be great for laughs at the campouts but I'm loyal to the core.
Let's see...if my counting is correct we have only 36 more days?? or is it 35??
Hugs
Marlene

Whatever the count, we're definately getting closer!
Found the fabric for the yurt walls in Walmart dollar yards a couple days ago, as well as some really pretty, handwoven looking dollar yards for the door. I need to find a tarp for the roof (I refuse to spend at least $30 plus all the sewing to make one, especially since for the fabric to be tough enough, it'd probably be a LOT more than $30) and we're getting ready to drop a tree on Monday to bang the slats for the lattice out of. Definately getting closer . . . . . And now I get to figure out how to uber-pack the minivan . . . Ought to be an interesting challange, finding out where all the new nooks & crannies are.
On the other hand, I'm not sure what I'll do with all that space. I'm used to packing two sets of armor, arrows, javalins, swords & shields, clothes for 2 for a week, a queen-size bed (sans matress & spring), and a pavillion . . . . and candle lanterns . . . . and bedding . . . . and projects . . . . and whatever else needs to make the trip . . . . In an Olds Cutlass Supreme Y'all are probably going to start laughing when you see us drive up in the van - it'll probably be packed to the gills!

Ozarkcat - we can have a packing contest -- LaDonna can get more stuff in a small space then anyone I've ever seen before....and Milt and Corky come pretty close....and no one has dared to laugh that them yet. We can take pictures and post 'em here for a vote by those who didn't get to make it this time.
Don, I can already hear your laughter bouncing off the cliffs of the east side of the Buffalo...and flowing over our campsite....at 3 AM....hopefully no one will want to wake you at 8AM with pots and pans You know Dennis gets blamed for all that merriment late into the night and I've yet to actually hear him....I might have to just stay up and see how he does that.
Only 34 more days.....and counting.
Hugs
Marlene

I think Marlene posted this before but it got lost. Here's a link to a map of the whole Buffalo National River Park from the Park Service.

Marlene, Thank you for the compliment but....
I like you just the way you are.
MY HEAVENS! What would become of a world with two Corkys in it.
We had an easier time of it packing everything before we had to pack a certain little pink pig.
Now... I have been out working in the garden and..... anyone want some nice spearment plants?
Or how about some winter (walking) onions.
I would just love to bring you a start of them if I haven't already.
Oh yes, I also have two of the cutest litle buck kids for sale.
They are very dark chocolate, almost black toggs.
I just love to watch the three kids and molly out grazeing in the pasture. Their dark color next to the green grass and the redbud trees is just beautiful.
I have them advertized in the paper along with my purebred togg buck and the wether.

yes, corky, i want some onions-the ones you gave me last year went to my mom....i'd like some spearmint, too, hopefully i won't kill it this year.
how many days? 35? 34? the kids let the tent blow across the road, into the trees down the hill, too steep to recover, and torn up anyway. so they have to buy a new tent.

Don, I know you have never been here but.... TRUST ME! I can spare the onions and mint.
Laura, you are probably making the mistake of planting it where you want it.
Put it in your vegtable garden and it will grow. EVERYWHERE!
I have tossed hugh masses of mint root over the fence today. That will only slow it down. Not stop it.

Obser and "Supervisor" plan to attend -- probably bringing our home and parking in the RV section. We were at Tyler Bend a little over a week ago for a pleasant couple days. The electric and sewer systems were out of operation for upgrades, but should be back in service by now. The grounds are nice, the office staff was very friendly, the river and bluffs are impressive, and there are a number of interesting hiking trails with overlooks. The little restaurant in Gilbert will be open as of April 6th. We had a nice breakfast at Ferguson's (on Hwy 65).
Would anyone be interested in a discussion/demonstration of "Making Firewood and Fires"?
Does anyone have a two-man (or one man, one woman) crosscut saw they could bring (or sell)?

We've got one for use, not for sale - needs a handle at the moment, but relatively easily fixable. Not sure if it's sharp or not. What if it's two woman? Should I try to talk Eric into bringing some of his other primitive woodworking toys . . . I mean tools? We're getting ready to drop a tree on Monday for the lattice & rafters for the yurt, & then splitting out the wood with froe & mallet, but I've got Eric convinced that it'll be much faster to finish them with the power sander.
Had our first day back at the farmer's market in Mt. Vernon this morning - I swear, it just keeps getting earlier & earlier (maybe 'cause I keep staying up later & later with "just one more thing for the booth") Sold a bunch of soaps & a bottle of "tired old behind" linament. Unpacked everything & realized we really needed to start pouring some more pillar candles - didn't think the stock had gotten hit that hard, then we remembered - oh, yeah, Christmas presents!
BTW, I know Marlene had mentioned some wool yarn, if anyone else is interested in anything (we also do a whole bunch of soaps & candles, Eric does some nice wooden mallets, I do a ton of knitting, sewing, etc, & he does some weaving) drop me a line & we'd love to talk trade - best way to end up with cool stuff without bankrupting yourself If anyone has a Muscovy duck hen or pair, I would _love_ to talk trade - we about can't get our birds to set for anything, & I really don't want to buy more chicks.
Edited to add: Oops, forgot about our new batch of bunnies - we've got 5 French Angora kits that'll be about 7 or 8 weeks old at that point, and we just had a litter of 3 mini rex/New Zealand white mix, but not sure how the doe's going to do with them yet - first time mama.
