I think that the Realtors on here should volunteer to "check out" a place near them. And we should offer a Reasonable compensation to said realtor for services rendered. I had a realtor go and video tape a place for me. He took about 30 minutes of footage and made quality observations about the place. He charged me $20 bucks. That saved me a trip to TN and after he was through taping that one. He did 4 drive by's and shot a little footage of them as well. It wasn't the place for me but my wife's friend bought it. She would never have seen it if not for the video.

I vote YES

Kenneth

Well, CN, I'm trying to keep this thing open for you ... doesn't seem to be too many others interested in it though ...

I voted yes as well even tho we aren't looking for sure yet. I love seeing places for sale and hopefully someday we just might get lucky enough to be able to move from here. We are country people who has had Yuppie ville move on all around us. I think this is a great idea and may just give someone the opportunity to buy that perfect-for-them place.

I have to disagree, because it seems with 83% wanting a Real Estate Forum that it should be a good forum to create. But of course I have an interest in it since we're looking for our 40+ acres in the Ozarks!!

If 83+% would like a real estate forum and one can't be opened here; how about doing like they do on Singletree-have an off site board? Maybe some of the realtors could help be mods since they could probably spot any scammers quicker than the ordinary citizen.

Here's a good free board that I use and highly recommend for member maneuverability, lack of glitches/downtime and Admin/user features.

Just referencing post #7, I noticed he voiced a concern and figured if there's real estate scams going around; a realtor should be knowledgable and able to spot them.

Heck, I'm probably too trusting-I've bought land off Ebay!! And luckily; it turned out ok but I did my research before bidding.

it wouldnt be any different than what we post already in several forums... links to farms for sale and the like.

I guess 83% doesnt mean much!

A couple of questions.

83% of a couple of dozen people, when there are about 1200 registered users and about a 100 or 200 on at most any waking hour, so about 15 people?

Also, have you posted a request in the Admin forum, or PM'd Chuck to ask about this, or are you just putting this up and expecting miracles to happen?

And that being said, why can't you use the barter board for this? No one has contacted me with any ideas about using something that already exists to help a cause like this, and no one has done a lot of posting of properties, just a few here and there.

BUT, be quite aware, there has been at least one real estate deal that has gone drastically wrong and I've been involved in many many pm's and e-mails about it. so, buyer and seller BEWARE. and go into anything with your eyes open and do due diligence before making a contract.

Now, can I assist via Barter Board.?

Angie

I think about 85 people have voted for it and another 15 or 16 against it.

I didn't start this thread and I have no idea about how the particulars would work.

I do know that a major question everyone always has is where to live and what kind of land is for sale out there. All I know is my little neck of the woods and have a hard time figuring out the diffrent areas to even start doing real estate searches.

More than actual pieces for sale (although that would be nice) I would love to see people post how much land goes for in their area, what the weather is like, what kind of job market, what kind of zoning, what kinds of permits are required, ect. I'm sure other would love for this to have it's own folder as well. Maybe a relocation folder that could also be used to post links to properties for sale?

I would think that buying a piece of land is always buyer beware? Wether the ad is placed in my local paper or on an internet board.

Obviously I voted "yes" for whatever that's worth

It seems like a good idea and I wouldn't be overly concerned about scams. People doing any kind of business transaction should be informed and cautious. But, some folks send their bank account numbers to phishers and frauds or buy real estate without adequate knowledge or advice. There is no way to protect against naivety – on-line, in print or in person.

We aren’t actively looking to buy at the moment, but are always open to alternatives. We have some acreage for sale in Arkansas (legitimate, listed with a Realtor friend) and know of other land for sale.

I was polling to see if the idea was even worth pitching to anyone. The barter board is a good place to put such a forum... your right.

sure... whats your opinion on the usefullness of such a forum?

ALL real estate transactions require a titile search and on site investigation with the owners and the county records office... thats a given in any RE transaction, unless you want shafted.
I figured everyone kinda knew that..

I think the intended use is a bit misunderstood, its wouldnt be a "barter board" more like a place to put all the scattered topics on RE and the "look whats in my area!" type posts... along with Q&As and problems needing advice.

the pig people dont scatter pig topics in several forums.... they all go in the pig forum.
the general homesteading questions forum is to broad and active to post RE maters on, in 3 hours the topic is floated out of sight on page 3 with 100 other posts.

my intent wasnt to go over anyones head but only to see how much interest there was in the idea.
I figured by the time a few weeks of opinions went buy someone would take a notice, [seems you have anyway!] and then more direct requests could be made.

I said 85% doesnt mean much, as in "a poll with an 85% yes vote hasnt raised any eyebrows yet"

it seems to have got your eye.... what do you think about it?

I voted yes because we are currently selling our home. We have 160 acres for sale in northern WI. 5 miles away from Lake Superior. Roughly 100 acres clear with 30 acres fenced. 60 acres woods. Old farm house that needs work but some stuff has already been done. New well (good water) and new septic.

Just in the few months I've been on this forum alot of people, myself included, have asked what it's like to live in a certain area. That means these people are looking to buy a place and alot also have a place to sell. Being able to go to a specific forum on this subject would be alot of help.

Cool

I would love to see a real estate networking forum - but I'm not looking for a new home - and I do own a place that I'm happy with...right now. Didn't vote.

If anyone is interested, there still appears to be some very good deals to be had in the beautiful state of Oklahoma. Check out the United Country listings for the state ... Some very good deals indeed !
