Maxx is a popular breed, and the odds of getting him back are slim. He could be taken for a pet, or for fighting, or for other nefarious purposes... If it were a mutt, it still might get taken for a pet, but odds are you would have heard something back from all the calls and postings.

One reason why I prefer mutts, or runt of the litter...less chance of someone borrowing the dog... and if it does get lost, a much better chance of getting it returned...

Did you try putting flyers on people's doors (i.e., roll them up and use a binder to attach them to the screen door) and have a picture on the flyer and offer a reward? I found a cat that had gotten lost that way once....
Often people are too busy to stop and read a flyer on a pole or on a store bulletin board, but if it is on their door, well, the odds go way up....also, if someone has him and is just "hoping" that he doesn't belong to anyone, well, a flyer on the door would make them confront their conscience, too....
Go to pounds and shelters in the area--don't just call, even if he is a purebred boxer, it is possible that he is classified as some other breed or color and the only way you will know for sure is if you check in person...
Also....as hard as this is to recommend, the possibility that he was hit by a car must be considered....contact public works, because in most cities they keep a record of animals that have been hit by cars (i.e. if he was hit and killed, they might have a record of picking him up)
