Who is from Illinois?

I live 1 hr south of Springfield, IL and an hour northeast of St. Louis, MO.

littlebitfarm 10/10/05 09:57 AM

I am! An hour south of Champaign.

labrat 10/10/05 09:58 AM

I'm not from the state, but I did live there for 9 years. 6+ in Springfield, 1+ in Bloomington/Normal, and 1 in Decatur. Business took me there from Louisville, Kentucky and business took be back to Lexington, Kentucky. Can't say I miss the place; too flat, no hills or valleys.

MullersLaneFarm 10/10/05 10:00 AM

You needed to come more northward! Plenty of hills up here.

I'm between Rock Falls & Tampico (birthplace of Ronald Reagon)

Dawndra is in IL also, a couple hours south of me.

Pony 10/10/05 10:08 AM

Northeast IL

I'm east of Muller's farm -- about 25 minutes north, a little west of Chicago; about 1 1/2 hours south of Milwaukee, WI.

I'm still here, NW of the Hub City. I need the space around me, sky - corn and soybean fields - after too many years in the Chicago suburbs. We are in our 9th year out here and still love it!

FolioMark 10/10/05 11:53 AM

I live in Champaign but will retire to 12 acres down in Laclede County Missouri in about 2 years.

Jesus Saves 10/10/05 12:10 PM

I live near Decatur. A small area called Oakley.

OK, PLEASE someone help me out. I have been trying to research what I need to do to sell baked goods from home. I just want to do it in winter to supplement my hubbys lay off. I am getting no response from IDPH or macon county health dept. where do I get a food license? I am trying to rent a kitchen to use too. Sheesh. Stephanie

Itu 10/10/05 02:17 PM

I am 35 miles north of Peoria.

The health dept. offers classes for the food service and sanitation license. Just keep calling until you get a response.

No problems. Most baked goods can be sold without certification or special licenses in IL. This includes breads, cookies, & most pies. You canNOT sell custard-type pies, but fruit pies are fine.

These are state regs.

Now several years ago, I was making and selling a lot of jelly. I would sell it out of my home which was not a problem. I checked with the health dept. about selling it at my mother's store. They said that I could do so as long as it was only available occasionally....not a regularly carried item. So I would occasionally take some there to sell, but most of my sales were done from home or on one of the many scenic drives in this area. I also asked about selling on the scenic drives and they said that is was a "short-lived, special occasion" there was no problem.

MullersLaneFarm 10/10/05 04:34 PM

Enforcement is up to the county.

My county (Whiteside) would jump all over that and haul me to court. We had to tell them that raw milk sales on the farm was legal in IL.

State regs about canned items are they must be processed in certified kitchens.

Hey I know where Staunton is ! I've got 10 acres near Sorento, not too far from you. Although, I'm currently building a house outside of Millstadt, Illinois, about 45 minutes south of Staunton.

OH NO, don't call it the border, it must be called the stateline to be accurate (I had a PM enlightening me that borders are between countries LOL! I corrected my moniker).

I too am on the stateline but at the edge of Boone/Winnebago county. Family came from the east coast, to OH, then up the river to Como area in Whiteside County. Lots of relatives there, even in Galt!

decamper 10/10/05 10:51 PM

That's right, Greg. Sorento is really close. My other half is from New Douglas.

Back in the 80's, I went to BAC with a guy named Greg from Millstadt so I know where it is too.

I used to live in Illinois.. Christian, Sangamon, Clinton counties at various times.. then I turned 20 and learned it was legal to leave the state and did. Been in Florida since. Gladly.

Did learn an important skill.. when you meet someone from Central Illinois, the best opening line is.. "So what kind of work are you out of?"

Calm down people, its a joke.

My county health department would be glad to send me for jail for selling jelly out of my home that was not processed in a certified kitchen

You'll be fine as long as you stay withing state reg. If your county health department finds out, PM me for state regs.

Or you could go to your county health department and inquire about the regs. Better yet, contact your county health dept to get the State Health Dept phone # and call them.

CHICAGO corruption?? What about SPRINGFIELD?

With the former gov on trial, and the current one looking like he got pretty dirty during and after his "clean up corruption" campaign, I'd say the whole state is in need of a good disc scan and clean up... :flame:

Of course, I could get started on King Richie of the Kingdom of Chicago, but I might get high blood pressure or something.... :grit:

Oilpatch - move!

I lived in the country near Mt. Vernon - my rural address was Woodlawn - I went to high school in Pinckneyville and then to SIU (before you needed to say SIUC) and worked on the archaeology dig before the Carlyle Lake was created. I found that the people had a poverty conscientiousness that made them act very, very strange. So many of the coal mines "shut down" and created a certain desperation there. After college I moved to Miami and dreamed of moving "home" and when I got back (to the Woodlawn address) I found that Centralia was a ghost town and that people would steal your false teeth if you weren't looking.
So sorry for losing such a wonderful area - but had to move back to Florida because the cost of living was way too high there (taxes, taxes and surcharges that were unreal).

Animal 10/11/05 12:26 PM

Oilpatch,
Right now we live in Flora. Can't wait to get out of here. Just paid the house off and going to be looking for some land in the country somewhere. Would love to get out of Clay County.

My dad was born and raised in Carlyle. He and my Uncle Cliff drove a truck into Carlyle Lake the first year it was built/created/brought into being...

Uncle Cliff used to drink a bit, and I figure he was the one behind the wheel. I was pretty little back then, but remember my mom and Aunt Mary getting MIGHTY angry at those two guys! Don't think the old green Phone Truck was much good after that, either.

Am I the only one from the 'burbs of Chicago. I thought more people on this site lived near Chicago but yearned for a slower paced lifestyle in the country.

Fonz, you must have skipped my first post to the thread. I'm in the Near North 'Burbs (Arlington Heights/Schaumburg area), just outside of The City.
