I love learning names of others' goats!

We have just had 16 kids born to 10 does this season (remember, spring has just begun in the Southern Hemisphere), with 9 of them being does we're going to keep. I've only managed to name the first one so far (Briar), so I have to get busy! I'm sure you can figure out the loose theme I use for all our goats, and any suggestions on what to name the newbies will be taken under grateful consideration. Have 4 Saanen doelings (none of which are pure white), 2 Boer doelings and 1 Boer buckling we're keeping to expand the gene pool, 1 cashgora/boer cross doeling to name still!

Our does are:
Saanens - Hyacinth, Iris, Juniper, Gypsaphylla (Gypsy for short), Ivy, Sweet Cecily (Cecily for short), and Parsley

Boers - Fennel, Marjoram, Carraway

Cashgoras - Bramble (her daughter is Briar), Fragaria and Lupine

Toggenburg - Holly

Arapawa Island - Marina and Paloma

Bucks:
Saanens - Jack by the Roadside (Jack for short) and Buckthorn (Bucky)

Boer - Rowan

Arapawa Island - Manuel

Okay first I will go through the past does and bucks/wethers:
Started out with Misty (Saanen), Braveheart (purebred Nubian took GCH), Toughy (pygmy wether that died), Daffodil (my goat),Cam, Cece (stray goat we took in), Max, Petunia, Amelia, Alex, Baby, Maleet, Barbara (Barbie for short), Dainty, Punky Brewster, Danny, Dulcinea and Don Quixote, Saddleback, Boy (a doe who had triplets, all of whom died), Girl (was barren and sold, go figure), Jeeter, and there have been a couple bucklings called "Roachy" and numerous others who were never named..mostly kids sold for meat or pets.

We currently have (in order of age):
Does
~Velvet~ mostly pygmy and our oldest
~Iris(Daffodil's daughter)~half pygmy, half who knows what
~Utopia (Velvet's first)~ half LaMancha, part pygmy
~Danielle (Braveheart's daughter)~ half LaMancha, half Nubian
~Snow White (Misty's daughter)~half LaMancha, half Saanen
~Baby (the second one, Velvet's daughter)~half LaMancha, part pygmy
~Liliana (Maleet's daughter)~ half Nubian, 1/4 LaMancha, and 1/4 Tog (we think)
~Sammie (Baby's daughter)~ half Nubian, 1/4 LaMancha, part pygmy
~Milky Way (Snow White's daughter)~ half Nubian, 1/4 LaMancha, 1/4 Saanen
~Elelgance (Danielle's daughter)~ 3/4 Nubian, 1/4 LaMancha (and appears to be barren as well)
~Marble (Iris' daughter by blood, but raised by Danielle)~ 1/4 pygmy, 1/4 Nubian and the rest is a toss up!
~Squeek-ums (Baby's daughter)~a.k.a. "Kitty," pygmy dairy cross
~Sue-she (Velvet's daughter)~ very pygmy
~Aurora (Snow White's daughter)~ 1/2 Saanen, 1/4 LaMancha, 1/4 Boer
Bucks
~William~ started out as "White buck," 1/2 Boer, 1/2 Saanen
~Charlie~ started out as "Creme buck," 1/2 Boer, 1/4 Alpine, 1/4 Tog

We also have ten wethers (Three Musketeer Bar and Skeeter are two of them, the otehrs are unnamed).

Now, if we were to get into our cow's names you would see some strange ones. :haha:

We purchased 2 nubians, Clarice the doe and Buddy the Buck. After disbudding Buddy died. My son was heartbroken so I desperately looked for another and found an Alpine. He was one of two twins Lewis and Clark. My son chose Lewis. Clarice is now pregnant and hope to have a kid soon.

They have been such a delight. I never new goats could be so much fun.

Goat's names

How fun! This is really a neat thread. We've had PLENTY of goats come through our farm but here are a few.
(boer bucks)Ryker, Snickers, Red Twizzler, Romeo, Sandstone, Ben,
(Boer does)--Stride, Launa, Foxy, "50", Jewel, Ruby, Bitsy, Bonnie, Velma, and Valentina,
(Nubian does), Corinne, Corey, Priscilla, (Alpine does)Checotah, Marmie, (Saanen does) Hugs, Cookies and Cream (cookie), Big-'un, (mixed does) Rose, Meg,(Toggenburg Does) Faylen, Darcy, Ella, Freedom, Lucy Mae, Fantasia, Matilda, Kate, Amelia, (fainter does) Topanga, "mama" and (fainter buck) Thor.
There are many many more that I can't remember currently.
We milk the dairy goats and make cheese and soap from the milk as well as drink it. My favorite thing is to make soap.

Blessings!
Jules

This an interesting thread, very humorous. I often wondered what other people named their goats.

My alpines names are Kit Kat and Peanut Butter (both does). Kit Kat has lighter brown with dark accent colors and Peanut Butter is mostly light brown. My kids also would live on peanut butter if allowed (the food not the goat). My buck we name Smokey due to his grayish black color.

My Nubians names were already given to them before I bought them. They are Jewel, Gilmore, and Ebony. Our wether's name was Meat as that was what he was intended for. We renamed him Moose because he sounds like one. Our last goats name is Gem. Her name was Jewel but we already had one of those so we tried finding something close.

names

My does names are Sheba, Lilly,Matilda and Olita which was named after my grandaughter. The boys are Dudly, Baratone and the wether named BQ.
My grandaughter was off one day from school so I told her to write a lists of goats names for the kidding season ahead. When I checked her list I noticed that nearly all the names were boys names. I explaned that we didn't need very many boys names. See had picked names of boys that were in her class. I wonder if there were no girls in her class? Hope her grades don't start going down.

Ok here we go, on the farm now are

*Maggie - my original and senior doe
*Clair - my new white doeling for Faithful Farm Nubians in Virginia (her mother was Cream Puff, her twin was Chocolate Eclair and her name is Vanilla Eclair)
*Bodine - a wether and one of Maggies first kids (the other was Jethro)
*Snickers - my new buckling also from Faithful Farm Nubians ( his mother was named after candy - Tootsie, grand mother Toffie and he is chocolate coverd candy with nuts--<g>)

Last year my sister in Kentucky took
*Elizabeth - a daughter of Maggie and very pretty marked and named afther my grand mother because she was born on mother'sday.
*Zack - Maggie's wether son from last year - named Sir Izack Newyears because he was born on January 1.

There has also been *Joker my old buck and his twin brother *Jester who was wethered and sold for a pet- these were born on April 1.
Past kids were *Chilly and *Pepper (just a reminder that they may become chile fixings even though they found pet homes), *Romeo (born on Valintine's day), *Dew Drop (named for my neighbor Dewy on who's birthday she was born, and *Aprilten(born April tenth of course)

Just a handfull

Well my first goat, my 21st birthday present, was Gerden Germaine. Gerty.
(Bred by an Angora breeder and fathered by a frisky Saanan - a lovely leggy curly angora cross)
Her alternate names were (she's passed on) Flossy Flop Fleece. Flossy.
Gerty Goose.

Current stock is:
1. Doofy. (aka Dufus aka Dufus Doo-bags aka Doodle)
She's Cashmere.

2. Jelly. no alternate names as yet, she's only been with us a while but she is going the right way about getting some good ones!!! You understand...
She's a little Cashmere with attitude.

My 'other ' goats were a few I had at work:
Hilary (aka Hilly-bub) - Cashmere
Paddy - Nubian
Manny - handsome hazel eyed little man - Cashmere
Bridget - Saanen

I also had a cow 'Pretty Ann' who had a calf 'Pretty Small' (aka PA and PS) - thought this line of naming might appeal to breeders

OK that'll do.
Let's not get started on cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and horses I have known...
