Attachment 45275 Like I said in the previous post- I don't have a due date. All I know is it is in March. For some reason march 10th keeps popping in my head. But i dont know. I didn't keep great records this year. (All I know is I bred in October.) And we all remember last years craziness[emoji4] What do you all think? Last yr was my first kidding with her, though it was her 4 or 5th time. She didn't hold true to the last breeders signs. Maybe it was an off year. So I'm not sure what to base it on this time. In the last day her bag has almost doubled. Her HOOHAH has gotten more puffy and red in the last 12 hours and for the last few hours she is moaning and whimpering non stop. We've had white goo for about a week. And her sides caved in a few days ago. She's laying down and keeps rolling and switching positions and moaning. I can't pull up last yrs pics on the forum so I'm going by memory. Just took these.... |
Update: she is moaning with every breath and keeps banging her head up against the wall. She seems really uncomfortable or in pain. Tried to examine her but she wasn't having it. Didn't want to stress her so I let her go.
Back legs keep kicking out and she jumps at the same time(she's laying down) She is restless and whiny and bag is filling quickly today. My gut tells me it close but y brain reminds me of last year! Any advice? Cmpk? |
I'd say babies are sorting out and she'll go into labor as soon as they're positioned. Depends on how cooperative they are. But as we all know they're like herding cats so it could be hours or a couple days. my bet is trips or quads. I'd be moaning too!
|
9:30pm update. Just for home from worship practice. No babies and no change. She's been up to eat. And goes right back to her lofty corner. Poor girl is as big as a house. Still moaning and licking the air. Rolling onto her sides. Maybe tomorrow will bring more definitive signs of impending labor. [emoji2] maybe not[emoji16]
|
7:00am. She is up eating breakfast. Has some whitish yellow tinged goo hanging. Sides are more sunken then yesterday.

Took her on a walk this morning. She refused to go more than a few feet and after about two minutes went back to her kidding stall. She is incredibly uncomfortable [emoji53] poor girl. Anyways- here's a pic of her this morning. What do y'all think? Close? |
I feel alone! Which is odd for HT
It's never quite here:-) I NEED ADVISE please. I'm extremely worried about my girl. She is still eating and drinking and voiding. Her ligaments have been nearly gone for 72 hours. It seems to me like I can feel a cm or two barely- where they attach to the spine. But no where else. Just like a tiny nub if that makes sense. She is very lethargic. She is getting up about once an hour but goes back to laying down within a few minutes. She's moaning and in discomfort obviously, grinding her teeth, and she's been panting for two days. I just times her and her respirations were over 130/ a min. I'm surprised she is not hyperventilating. She will breath hard an fast and then hold her breath and kick out her feet. Does this every few minutes. But like I said there no progression! Small bits of white goo.... Goes away when she pees. I've given her a small bit of cmpk and molasses with crackers... Trying to keep her energy levels up. Should I be concerned? |
Her udder looks pretty full. Can't be too terribly much longer.
|
It sounds like legs kicking out might be her having contractions. How long has she been doing that for?
|
On and off all day. More recently in the last couple hours. She is staring at me bewildered and moaning and panting. I haven't gone in for the fact I feel that tiny bump of connection on the spine- otherwise she's soft and squishy back there. Last year I watched her for a month straight- and she never acted liked this. She makes me a train wreck
|
Her babies might just not quite be lined up right yet. Sounds like she is getting close though. If she starts pushing with no progress, you may have to "go in" and help out.
|
I have a goat that gets squishy in the ligaments for 7-9 days prior to kidding. I say she has 5 day or more to go.
|
Even mine who lost ligs early still didn't fill their teats until the end... How are hers?
You could always go in. If there is one blocking the birth canal, she can't dilate correctly. If she is "ready" she may dilate when you go in. |
Her teets are cone shaped and very full. Her bag is also very big and hard. Bigger than it was when she kidded last year.
|
Heading home now from church- it's been four hours since I checked on her last. Will update when I get home. [emoji120]
|
Well- no change. She's up and walking around. Her poor body is heavy and she is definitely uncomfortable. Maybe tomorrow will bring better results [emoji175]
|
I let her out of her stall to walk around hoping gravity would help her. She wobbled owe to the fence line and started head butting my other doe. Hair standing up and she even got on her back feet to try and skull crack cadence. I let her walk around and play for about thirty minutes. Brought her back to her stall. She is now laying here panting and doing that phlemen thing as well as being very loud and vocal. I gave her a drench. Water, molasses, corn syrup and 10cc of cmpk. She seems so wore out the lat couple days and it seems to be getting worse. No goo as of now and no signs of babies or labor that I can tell
|
She's also grinding her teeth. Quite a bit.
|
That sounds off to me.....have you stuck a clean finger inside and checked if she is dilated? If you can go in very far with a couple fingers, I'd have a feel around and see what I could "see". If you find something and want to call me, thats fine. I'm heading to work here in a few minutes but can talk if need be. 417-349-2217
|
Thanks. I did put in two fingers about an hour ago. Couldn't feel anything really but wide open spaces. I assume I would have to go further in to find the cervix right? I was in about 4 inches.
She has gotten up to chug water twice and has a long thin glob of white goo hanging and it looks like her vulva is swelling and getting more red. Still breathing quick and kind of kicking her legs while she's laying down. |
This morning she is better. Not panting or breathing too hard. Just laying around. The goo has also stopped. Maybe her issue is that she's so big. I pray those are triplets or quads and not big twins like last year. But we shall see
|
Poor darling! And poor goatie-girl, too.
Praying that all is well and sorted out and that she easily delivers 3 doelings for you. |
I agree! I'm hopeful since I had all bucks last year. 9....ugh
|
Some of mine were panting yesterday. Temps in mid 60s and they had adjusted to really cold weather. It doesn't have to be extremely hot for them to pant, just a sharp increase in temp, particularly if they are pg.
|
We've got nothing ! Lol
The ligs came back for a few hours. Were actually really hard and noticeable. They are now softening again?!?! Wtheck! I'm not getting my hopes up because I just know they will leave and come back ten more times. She is laying down and keeps liftin her butt, however she's not pushing or anything. She is up and down every ten minutes. And I think her sides have sunken even more but at the rate I'm checking on her I think I would notice a hair out of place. All silly signs of the doe code... |
My Troubles did that to me last year. Silly girls!
|
Is too early to say the logs are almost completely gone again. It seems like every couple hours they are changing. Goo is back too. Fingers crossed. My husband is leaving for work in the morning and I'm praying she goes before then in case I need help
|
Ligs* [emoji39]
|
Ligs Are deep and almost untouchable - she is pooing every few seconds and moaning. Peeing little amounts and remaining in the squat position. Come on Trouble!!! It's raining, it's a quarter moon and it's Friday the 13th!!!! What more could you ask for!!!![emoji1]
|
3:00am update. Ligs are very close to completely gone. I cannot feel them at all anymore, and the sides are extremely squishy. The right side more slushy then the left just barely. But very close. The goo has changed from white to a drippy clear whitish color. Much thinner consistency. And the tail is laying off to the side. And when I came in she was standing not sleeping.
Looks like today could be the day But I've said that before and been plagued by drawn out signs. So- we shall see |
Bag has doubled in size since the last check
Hoogoo is thick and runny - not streaming yet. I can get my fingers under the tail now- on one side. The other side is gone but not as giving. These labor signs are different than last year. Just goes to show not every doe does it by the book lol |

For sharing purposes. The sides sunk around the tail head. Attachment 45536 This was yesterday and there were no signs of tail head depression. Not until this morning where you can clearly see the sunken areas outlining the tail. I always look for the loss of ligaments but forget this stage. |
Me too! I am slowly learning what troubles signs are. The original owner had very different signs for her for the first two kiddings. Then last year was chaotic when she proved the doe code and a batch I different signs. And again this year with completely different ones. Though some remained the same which is why I locked her up five days ago. Lol

Ligs are gone. Can finally touch around the tail head. Peeing only small amounts and squatting. Talking softly. and still eating- like a horse! Nesting, pawing, having small contractions I think- and leaking. She keeps putting her head in my lap And looking at me with her big eyes, saying "this hurts" lol Mama and goatie are both ready for these kids to pop out!! |
Oh my heck!!! Still nothing. Ooey and gooey and completely and extremely loose! But no serious labor! (Commence head banging)
No pushing. No sac. No toes. Just laying there whining and breathing hard |
Come on Trouble! I'm vicariously living through, and taking notes for our first kids to hit the ground early fall (August 1st ish). We are starting our little homestead in very southern NM currently. I won't be there til June, but have purchased my first two ND's. A buckling, (buckskin w/ moon spots) and a tri color bred doe. Looking to end up with 8-10 quality does in all. ND's and Mini nubians. Love seeing all the new kids! Taking lots of notes. Obsessively haha.

I like to post pics for people like me who freak out every year and need a refresher course. I watch them so closely I begin to think everything is a sign. Lol
Plus it helps to post pics and descriptions not only for others but so I can look back on them next year Good luck with your farm. I love having goats. |
I'm a photographer, so pictures are my thing ;) My aunt ran 1200 head of Angoras in the 90's...after working as a paralegal secretary for years at an international law firm. She married a rancher who worked for the power co. and the rest was history. They have a gorgeous ranch in Montana (where I lived for 26 yrs) and since leaving 5 years ago (I'm in the FL panhandle right now, but our homestead is in NM), I just haven't ever found anythign I enjoy doing as much as being out in the country. Hubby grew up ranching and on a small scale dairy. It's time to get back to our roots! I freaking can't wait!
|
Sounds like she has a beautiful place. I am in western ky now. Have been raising goats for 3 years. And I absolutely love it
Especially kidding season. I actually was raised in San Diego county California for 25 years. We lived in the mountains- not city , but never had really had farm animals. When we moved here four years ago, we jumped in head first with goats, chickens, ducks, cows, and goats. The cows go in the freezer and the chickens too( though I keep a lot of them just to keep down the tick population. Lol I love goat meat but haven't butchered any of mine. Still building my herd. |
