I have to applaud the fact that your neighbors came forward and admitted to the accidental incident. I know that doesn't bring back your wife's pet, but in this day and age when so many are willing to shrug off responsibility, it's refreshing to hear that there is hope.
Yes, if you have live stock, you are going to have dead stock. That is something a young Amish man said to us when we bought our homestead from him and my husband and I are always reminding ourselves of that now more than ever as we are bringing our first livestock in the form of chickens to the farm this spring.
Still, I know how bad your wife is hurting over her lost doe. They have a way of leaving hoof prints on your heart. Give her a hug and let the ones responsible help out with farm chores for a week. Actions, even well meaning gone bad, have repercussions. You will both come away better people for the experience. Hug your wife for me. Blessings to all.
