Wow very pretty!

I'm going to try tanning the hides when we do our meat kids this year, but I'm going to do hair off for the first go around - I hear it's easier that way. I have this pipe dream where I make kidskin beekeeping gloves for me and my husband.

Wow, those really are beautiful! Are they as soft as they look? Do you sell them on Etsy or something? I would have to keep one or two as seat covers for my car or rugs by the woodstove!

Is there a certain time of year you butcher to get the best skins? I know with my father-in-law's rabbits, he liked winter furs better.

They are super soft on both sides. They are professionally done, which actually isn't very expensive. I butcher when the coats look nice and I have freezer room... Basically right after their cost changes for the season.., after shed-out super slick summer coat or beginning of winter nice & fluffy

I've owned Nigerians. I loved how gentle they are, & they make great pets. I just didn't enjoy milking them.

My very favorite goat ever was a Alpine. She was my girl & followed me everywhere. I still miss her. However, I'm kind of hooked on Nubians & I really like our Boers too.

I have 2 pygmy/ND does that I bought for DD for Christmas. I got her smaller does since my LaMancha/Alpine and Savannah/Alpine scared her. She loves them and isn't afraid to pet or feed them.

I like the high butterfat milk and plan to make cheese with it. I have small hands and don't think I'll have too much trouble, but you never know. Plus you can easily sell them as bottle babies for $50 all day long. If I sell 4 then that would more then pay for the feed for my 4 does year round. I plan on saving 2 of their does this year though.

May I ask where you have them professionally done? I think I still have hides from a while ago that I'd like to get out of my freezer.

I had them fleshed and dried by a buddy, then I brought them to Midwest Fur Dressing in Rice, MN. (Google it). Farm goats aren't on their price list but they'll do them if they are clean and properly dried/fleshed
