We picked up some cydectin and since my boys were home we've been talking about it, examining the grass they've been eating out in the pasture where I had been tethering them, etc, while we were out there she tried to pee and then stopped and bleated. We had noticed while out doing morning chores she was bleating, which is not normal. Could this mean a UTI? What do you do for that? And why would she get that?

Well, we went out and spent a good deal of time with them. I don't see any blood, her poo is still soft but firmer than yesterday and she was peeing just fine. She seems very happy and contented, her usual curious self and no behavior that worries me. I am baffled. I guess I will just keep watching her closely.

I think you will find that she has aborted and will see her in heat later. I hope that's not the case, but it would be odd for her to have a UTI that bad that you're seeing that much blood and have it just get better on it's own. She may have been calling out like that due to the abortion causing hormone swing, they talk a lot when they kid, and would be similar.

Would we see an aborted kid or not necessarily? How long should a threatening abortion last before she would actually abort and stop bleeding? BTW, the bleeding is not active dripping, it is just evidence of it at the opening of the vulva and her tail is discolored with it. But all yesterday there was no sign of blood, I had washed her off in the morning and we never saw any blood again until today.

She is still smooshy manure and again a bit bloody at the vulva. I do have some antibiotic on hand if that is what to do with a uti, but I don't know what is wrong with her so hate to just give it. I feel like we are shooting in the dark. At least she seems very normal and happy and contented so I'm not afraid, just concerned.

I think all you can do is monitor her for now. Watch her behavior and keep track of her temperature. You could also try to collect a urine sample for a vet to check out. Be sure to tell them that she has a blood vulva, so that they know the blood could be from elsewhere than her bladder. And if you do that, go to a different vet than the one that gave you bad advice above. :/ She probably already aborted the contents of her uterus if she is going to, and you may or may not find a fetus/fetuses.

Most vets are not terribly knowledgeable about goats. If they don't make it a point to learn about them, many truly know next to nothing. We could all share horror stories.

Do let us know how your girl is getting along. You're not imposing because you don't post all the time. We're here to help with our experience, just as others help us on the Goat Road.

Pony -- our vet is specifically a farm vet and very knowledgeable about goats, luckily. From what I've heard most aren't though. I'm really thankful about ours!

Have you closely examined her vulva? Since she cried
when she urinated it is as if it hurt. Could she have cut the
vulva maybe rubbing her rear on something that may have
even penetrated and tore/cut inside?

I can't see anything that looks out of normal. I closely examined her when I cleaned her all up. She didn't seem tender, either. I haven't seen her having any trouble urinating lately or crying out or bleating anymore, either. But she still is bloodyish back there. Just like in the first picture. Her manure has firmed back up to pellets, and I'm thankful for that. We looked at their eyes closer and all of us tried to vote on what we thought and we decided that they don't really look all that pale, so we'll just wait and see on that also. I hate to give her wormer if we don't need to. We upped her crackers and with her back to pellets I think I'll just hold off on that. We never did see any signs of an aborted fetus and she doesn't look any less "pregnant". It's still all a mystery. She is still acting normally also, so we will just keep an eye on her.

My 15yodd is seriously considering becoming a vet. She is good with animals and thinks our neck of the woods really needs a good, trustworthy vet.

Wouldn't hurt to still send in a fecal.

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner, I have so many irons in the fire, too many. Anyway, I did want to say that she is doing fine. The scours stopped and the bleeding stopped and we are very relieved. I did not get a fecal done. I meant to, just had several crisises going on at the same time and didn't get to it. Thank you all for your help and advice. I am thankful for such a group of folks to learn from!
