One question. Are goats that much different from sheep? My sheep used to stand under the big pear tree and wait for a windfall to come down to them. Never a pear on the ground there, they loved them. I can still see them standing there watching a pear on the tree, willing it to fall, LOL.

About the pears but not goats.
I have never tasted better pork than the ones I fed 20 bushels of pears to during their last two weeks. It was three hogs and everyone that tasted it was amazed.
So, Save the pears for that hog you are going to butcher.

Ksfarmer, the main difference goats and sheep in their eating habits is that goats are way more picky about stuff. Mine don't hardly touch fallen fruit if it is in their pen because it's been on the ground and someone might have possibly stepped on it. Seriously. My sheep would eat about anything, the goats will sniff and maybe nibble things, but not always eat it. They do usually like things fed by hand usually, but even then, they can be picky.

Wow, they won't eat things off the ground??? Our bucks may be picky, but the does will eat practically ANY fruit or treat we give to them, and will even go as far as to put their hooves in the salt dish and then eat that!

It is so funny how the goats at different farms have such different tastes, even within the same breed! For example, most people will tell you their goats love warm water when it is cold out-not mine! I have brought them warm before and they snub their noses at it, yet get excited for me breaking the ice on a water trough. The only time mine will drink anything but cold water is when they've just kidded and I give them warm mollasses water.
