I am 50 and female. Joshua is a horse. DD and I took lessons from a well trained trainer for six months. After those six months, HE chose Joshua for DD. Our trainer brought Joshie back to his place on a trial basis to make sure he was the right fit for her. We didn't lay eyes on the (gelded) boy until our trainer brought him home. We boarded Joshua at his place for over a year. We could have brought him out to our 27 acres but thought we needed to learn in a manner safe for Joshua and us.

I strongly suggest letting a trainer choose your first equine. It is just way too easy to fall in love with a pretty face. Letting somebody who knows you and your abilities choose the best animal for you is best for you and your critters.

You say that your goats are getting mean. Believe me, any problems you're having with your goats will be a million times worse with equines. Even well trained equines owned by excellent trainers can kill you. Your descriptions sound like a recipe for a nuclear bomb.

I am not a goat person. I only came to this board because I wanted to go through your recent posts. I did so not out of meanness but because I am scared for you and your critters.

I understand your excitement. I asked about your age because I suspected you were closer to 20 than to 40. It is good to be eager but it is vital to take the time to learn about your critters. I don't believe you have done so.

HTers aren't trying to kill your joy. We are asking you to take things slowly. Getting ahead of yourself can kill your animals. More than one experienced trainer on the horse board has had to put down horses who were owned by inexperienced people. In equines poor training is often worse than no training. Equines are too smart for their own good and easily develop harmful behaviors that cannot be easily trained out. This can make them dangerous.

For everybody's sake please take things slowly. You and your animals will be much safer.

I re-read all the posts in here; and I'm a bit concerned as well for OP's safety and the safety of her animals ....... maybe a little slow and apparently having to survive on her own without family/friends to guide/protect/encourage/train ... ??

I do so hope she learns and that she (and her animals) are able to survive. It would be terrible if some government agency got involved.........
