I went to a hay and pasture conference last year and there was an analysis done on a local farmer's bermuda hay....it was 21% protein. Bermudagrass varieties have come a long way, and if the farmer does a good job of baling, it can be very high quality.

Check around your area for farmers selling baled hay. This is the time of year they are all cutting & baling & time to buy it & stock up until next year.

Bringing this back up. The Bermuda I bought worked out great. The goats loved it. I'm going to buy some more from a farmer(who is a doctor) that sprays for weeds and fertilizes the heck out of it. He runs 32 head of the fattest horses you will ever see. The hired hand says the Doc puts more into his hay than he gets out if it. It's tested at 18% protein and 12% moisture content.

Doug your Bermuda sounds like ours. The farmer I buy from always takes such great care with his hay. It's always clean and great smelling. The goats do so well on it. He grows it and bales it for horse folks. The past 3 years he has custom cut and baled for us, In big rounds Hope to 70 or so bales this spring. Last spring was so wet. We waited for 2nd cutting. The goats have done great on it. BUT. I am hoping for first cutting this coming spring

Susie.

I can't wait to get it. Supposed to be delivered Wednesday or Friday. They put it up as soon as its baled and spray it with something. (The hired hand that does all the selling didn't know with what) She (yes she) says it stays green all year in the bale and all the animals eat every crumb. She even shows ponies and said all the other ponies at the shows kept trying to get out of their pens to get at her hay.

Hay put up in square or round bales and stored inside will stay green in the bale anyway. Only the outside will change color since it is exposed to daylight.
