I'm so sorry to hear about your girl.

On the matter of retained placenta you might ask your vet about keeping some oxytocin(pitocin) on hand. I know some breeders who administer it as part of their kiding routine. I always liked to wait and make sure it was really needed.

Thank you to those who replied after I reported on the loss of her. Her 2 babies are doing well and will be 5 months in a couple of days.
It still is difficult to believe she has died, but her girls are a constant joy to me and I see her in them every day.
You all are the best!

How typical is it to have this situation? I have usually around forty to sixty head and never had much problems with kidding. Had several diffrent issues with kids themselves but that's a different thread. Most of the time they drop before I'm even aware its happening I'll check for signs regularly and bring them up to kidding pen when they are close making bag and getting spongy tails but even then they usually wait until I turn my back to kid. No stuck placentas no stuck kids two backward births went unassisted nothing else has come up. Just curious about how often others have difficult kiddings. It always stinks to lose a friend I hope you found another to take up where she left off.
