I've built rabbit cages, chicken houses, brooder boxes, pasture shelter and Pork Knox from pallets. For the pig pen I drove T posts into the ground so they'd snug up to the right side interior corner of the pallet. Drop the pallet over the post, nail or screw to the next pallet that also has a T post in the right interior corner. For the gate I simply sank posts in the far corners of two pallets so they'd swing free and then used a heavy duty chain and u-bolt to close the doors. I will be able to back a trailer right up, open the doors to serve as a fenced runway and run 'em in the trailer. I've had the pigs in this setup for several months and haven't had any problems with root, climbing, escapes or injuries.
Btw, I used pallets that were the same size, stout and made with nails, not staples.

When we had goat I collected up a lot of pallets all the same that were 32" X 48" and all good Oak. I just nailed them together and built a 32' X 32' pen. None of them ever even tried to get out. in two places on each 32' section I installed braces to make the fence stronger. Just two oak pallet stringers buried together and two more nailed together to the top of the wall.
They stood their front feet on the pallet slats to look over them but never tried to go over them.

I use pallets for a lot of things- temporary fences is one of them. I use chicken wire to line the bottoms because we have nigis and mini nubians... babies are tiny enough to fit through many of the pallets.

They are short at only 4 feet. I have one mini nubian that I'm sure will one day "accidentally" take a running leap over and then I'll have to run a strand of hot wire at the top.

I think if you find enough of them to be fairly uniform in spacing, they *can* look really cute. You could even paint them

I like that my pyr can stand up and look over the top of them easily... I'm sure she'd jump right over if there was something nasty out there. I also like that they have the little "shelf" at the top, so it makes a good place for setting a bucket when I need to open the gate and get through. They are easy enough for me to lift things over, set them down, etc.

I have seen them done very poorly as well... jankety and tied together with bailing twine. Falling into the ground and looking like a dump yard.

If you can find a store in the city that gets deliveries on pallets, they'll LOVE for you to take them away so they don't have to pay to throw them away. And the pallets will most likely be very clean and more uniform looking than what you'd get from a feed store, etc.

They are GREAT for fencing pigs, (at least our AGH) as long as they are anchored with sturdy tposts and if lined with hot wire they never touch them.

I will echo the caution on slat spacing, as well as the width of the pallet. I do know people who've had does bred through pallet fencing.
