OMG I'm using flaxseed (ground) as well as the flaxseed oil for my own personal health. Never even considered its being good for goats. Thanks for the information.

Yep, I use a ground flaxseed that I get from a mill that does mostly minerals around here. It is cheaper than BOSS in my area, and it is higher in fat, so per amount fat it is much cheaper than BOSS...I am mainly using it for the fat content.

Is that for a higher butterfat content in the milk?

Supplement.

And what is the difference if you use BOSS as part of your grain, or some other fat source?

Heavy milking dairy goats are not living a "natural" life, and if my girls are going above and beyond for me, I will certainly assure that their grain ration is what they need to keep producing.

Increasing the fat in the feed can bump the fat in the milk a little bit, but it can also make them have LOWER butterfat if you feed too much. It mainly helps my girls keep good body condition while milking.
