Congrats!!

Obviously you've already decided Michigan is the best place to be ;-)

Curious as to why you chose MSU....not that you have to share that here.

Will this allow you to keep your animals...or will the workload preclude that anyway?

Congrats again and all best wishes for you in your further studies, vet school is no walk in the park.

That is great, but never had a doubt that you would make it happen!
I'm voting that you stay in Michigan too, we need good farm vets!
Your current location is perfect, think of all the potential large & small farms you could cover within a hour of home.
Congrats!

Congratulations!!
That is an incredible accomplishment!

They say it takes a village - I really believe that the more good, knowledgeable, supportive people we surround ourselves and our kids with the better, more knowledgeable, supportive people we will all become.

So excited for you!

And please, for the love of all things good and wonderful, come to North Carolina. We are in desperate need of a good goat vet down here. At the moment, the local breeders and owners know more about vet med for goats than our vets do! -headdesk-

I actually also applied to Texas A&M and Wisconsin-Madison.

But, MSU is an hour away from home, and I'll get in-state tuition - which is about half of out-of-state!

This is a bit bittersweet because I have known for a while that going to vet school will mean getting rid of at least the goats. I will probably keep doing rabbits as they aren't as much work.

As to when I'll be doing a sellout of the goat herd, I haven't yet decided. Technically the first 2 years are very similar to what I've been doing - classwork - and then the last 2 years are rotations. I may be able to continue the herd for the first two years, on top of working and driving an hour home every weekend. But, that would be just 2 more years of 'putting it off'. There's always going to be one more dairy girl I want to see freshen, and one more boer doe I want to see grow and fill out. It would also cut my expenses - this spring I was looking at buying a new boer buck for somewhere between 800.00 and 1500.00. I have a lot of choices to make. My dad has made mention of keeping the dairies around and having him do all the work pretty much... But I'd still have to be there for kidding, do all the more skilled work with them such as hoof trims, shots/vaccines, diagnosing sick ones etc.

Dona, congratulations! Vet school is incredibly hard to get into! You've always been such a wonderful and wise poster here in spite of your years...you'll make a fabulous vet. Woohoo!

I'm saying MO. Lots of goat crazy people there.

WOW! Congrats! That is so awesome! Class of 2018, I haven't even thought that far ahead yet.

I've always wanted to either be a vet or midwife, it'll be interesting to see how it goes for you! So cool, again, congratulations!

That's Awesome! THat's JUST AWESOME. Congratulations on acceptance. I'd not be surprised if you get a few more offers, but being close to home has many merits - and remember, it's not the name of the school - it's what you put into it, and how you put that sheepskin to use.

So happy for you. To think - there will actually be a goat familiar vet in this world.
You will do well!

Amazing job many congratulations. You can probably go where ever you want - goat and large animal vets are so lacking, not to mention chickens have you ever tried to find a vet to see a chicken.
