I'm really curious about the report on BOSS causing fishtail. BOSS is high in both copper and selenium. Since symptoms of deficiency AND toxicity are very similar, I wonder if excessive copper is at issue. If larger amounts of BOSS were being fed in addition to copper bolusing/Replamin, is it feasible there could be a toxicity problem? Just a though. I do feed BOSS in moderation and have noticed my goats will go for periods of time with little interest in their free-choice minerals.

I'm looking at your posts and wonder if I'm not feeding my goats wrong. At my mill in order to get "mixed" feed, I have to buy 500# of feed. It would go bad before I could use that much, and I've no place to properly store it.

I've been feeding free choice grass hay, loose minerals and baking soda. in the morning I give Alfalfa pellets and purina goat chow. They are a bit on the chunky side coming in to winter and they have nice full coats. They seem healthy... but are they?

They are fine. In fact if not in last month of pregnancy, being flushed for breeding, or lactating, then they don't need ANY grain or alfalfa pellets.
