This is our current chicken dog, soon to be goat dog if all goes well. Akbash. Biggest bloody dog we've ever had and that's saying something with pyr and st Bernard to compare with. Stupidest too. Really stupid. Still, he's lovely and our son loves him so he stays.

I'll have to do a search. Any tips on goat training dogs? The weim is the big concern as I stated previously. He's 10 and we do use him for hunting.

We've had 2 deaths and an addition so we have a great pyr, akbash and weim right now. The weim is my big concern. I'm unsure if he'd harm a goat or not.
What kind of deaths?
Love your barn. Maybe just build a feeding shed for your hens onto it (an actual seperate shed, with a TUNNEL entrance- that is what I have decided may work for keeping the goats (we have middle size mini toggs and are getting a mini buckling they are the biggest issues, as well as any kids/ doelings and bucklings you may get).....just havent gotten around to building a tunnel and we have a Jersey Giant Rooster who doesnt fly or like squeezing thru things I dont wanna starve him to death....

Actually love your big stupid Akbash, he is a beauty....
Our problem dog is our Giant Schnauzer. She has high prey drive -- I put a mini tire onto her collar (it sorta like a hobble but she can toilet herself and get around, just has trouble chasing ) and do all the training - I think that is down in the either Companion animals or Guardian animals section of Livestock forums... its been a couple months now and she is better.....
but the goats can sense she wants to stalk them and are scared of her they keep jumping into the chicken yard when she comes near....

Oh dog deaths. Our viszla was 13 and he died of old age in July. Our St Bernard was diagnosed with incredible amounts of cancer and had to be put down in August. It's been a depressing year for us dog wise.

I have lots of different poultry with turkeys, ducks, peacocks, guineas and chickens. I might be able to build a goat proof door but if it's too goat proof it might also become poultry proof. I'm going to see about putting them with the dogs for the winter I think. Just that weim......

Oh so sorry for you and your dog losses (well def keep that nicelooking Akbash just house the weim seperately from the goats to start)....
the only issue I see with keeping goats in with the dogs, depending on where you get them from - goats may be very scared of the dogs and frightened of them....they may run from them every chance they get....
Our soon to be acquired buckling (he is not weaned yet) lives with an American Bulldog in his pen, but the other 5 are terrified of dogs....

Love your barn and your dogs.

Just thinking about the chicken door large enough for peacock yet one goats could not get thru. I'm thinking that a nice little "Z" shaped, heavy duty wire at the door. Fowl could go around; goats couldn't..no matter how creative they get.

I see the goats sticking their tongues in and eating out of it anyway. They are sneaky little buggers.

We have an acre pond and i have never seen my goats by it. I also run my goats with my horses in the spring/summer months and have never had any problems with my dairy goats getting out only the nigerian that we use to have and he was the great escape artist. We have 4 strands of the rope fencing up and that keeps my dairy goats in.

Yes I agree they are just going to stick their heads in and eat the feed/ or just tear it apart -stomping on it and worrying at it til it breaks to get the feed....

Some do. I have a doe who would eat any eggs that were layed in the goat pen... As evidenced by a bright yellow mustache.

LOVE your barn, by the way!
