Yes Use Online Realtor Listings! You can Google them from where ever you are-- all the different Realty offices have them there is plenty to see without having to resort to Craigslist.
Also its sad, but there are realtors that specialize in Foreclosure sales and there are some good bargains there (and better to you, a nice family with kids, than some investment bank or real estate speculators)...

Ummm yes, one must use sense and let their spidey senses tell them when things are awry. It's very important to be careful but there are wonderful opportunities as well.

Good idea about Craig's list. With realtor.com cheapest house I found was 899,000.
My dh gave up a $45 an hour job to be home more. He was a long haul truck driver. The day jobs here laid off so he went to North Dakota. Till he Was able to find a local job. Till he completed college. Now he's off for a better job that pays far less then his good paying job. But more then he gets now. We will also have health insurance. Can't pay the 2700 a month they want a month now. We don't even make that much. But honestly I don't mind his current job. It's not his passion though. He needs to get back to his passion.
I told my 5yo dd we have to sell robi. She cried. She asked me "now who will be my horse". Lol. She learned how to milk at 3 with robi. Robi has always been patient with her. Robi is a good girl! She has always been so kind to newbie milkers.
I will start new in Texas. The funny thing is my new lamancha buck came from Texas lol! At least there are many clean herds in Texas.
We hope to retire in Missouri off the grid.
I do look forward to a longer growing season and less winter. I have only gardened in 4a4b zones. So I need to learn how to garden down there. I'm excited to move just not suburban hell.

Hon, you will have to go out just a bit. There are lots of places for 150k and less with acreage on realtor.com You will need to set the price range for the max you want to pay + about 10k since you will likely want to offer a bit less than asking price. I put in Canton, TX as the location and got 60 hits for 10 acres or more with a house for 150k or less.

I sure hope you find a place a bit out that can fit your family & all your animals & that you can afford! Keep looking, Like someone else said hubby can rent an apartment until you find the right place.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed your animals move with you to the perfect new home!

Myheaven, you said "not his passion". What is his passion? What about starting his own business?

Is he a 'go getter?' Will he 'do what it takes?'

He's got a wife and 7 kids! He's got the incentive. He needs to do his passion
When you love what you do, the money finds you!

I'm going to pm you. I've got something for you.

I've never been, but from what I've read folks in Texas have a good attitude about things. There are worse places you could be going.

For what it's worth, the farm I purchased and presently living is a CL find. CL has it's place and like everything, you have to exercise common sense and sensibility when buying anything.

We may have found a 7.30 acre hobby farm with small barn. More then double the size house we have now. 45 min from dallas. This job is dh dream job! If I can get a bigger house and still have a garden and raise our own food(my passion) I'm going to be ecstatic!
Anyone familiar with Kauffman Texas?
The house isn't the 3500+ square foot we would like but it's double + what we have now. Plus we can put half down on it.
So I may not sell all of my animals. I will have to sell most. Keep 3 cows and 5 goats. I will most likely have to widdle down from that.

Sounds like the perfect place to start over! Much, Much better than any subdivision IMO.
You can always add on to the house later & end up with 3500 sq. feet but at least you'll have your animals.

Even if this place doesn't work out, it sounds like you have the recipe for lemonade.....you'll do fine. Best of Luck!
