You have not failed her, and it may or may not be genetics I have been dealing with a doe with similar problems and it was more how she was/wasn't cared for before...
That being said giving a high dose of worm killer can have bad side effects simple put when a whole bunch of worms die all at once can cause OTHER problems.
Heidi was having a recurring problem with barber pole / bottle jaw (most common in areas with deer as well)
I followed treatment with quest dose and again in 10 days, also used B12 complex injection everyday until she showed pink again. I did not use red cell. 24 hours after first injection very strong appetite, by day 3 bottle jaw was gone, by day 5 showing pink again now I check her and every one else everyday. Haven't had to treat for anything this last month.
I know some would say to cull her but I am stubborn heck I have been working on this one for a year now, fixing mistakes her previous owners made. At times I get very angry at some peoples ignorance, this old girl has a strong will to live her condition is sooo much better I do know that she won't have the life expectancy that a well cared for goat would of had so I can only hope this next year she will give me a doeling out of one of my bucks.
The final choice is up to you. If the worms are in the soil for some parasites it can take up to 5 yrs for them to be eradicated. A strong and consistent worming protocol should be in followed for all your goats or they just keep infecting the area. Some goats do have higher resistance than others, when some breedings are done some don't look at resistance being high in rank if they are wanting one with higher production ect ect ect...
I prefer not to use 2 different wormers at the same time, my preference is to do a fecal and then worm for what shows on slide with what is needed.
But you now know that barber pole is what you need to watch for most...I would be checking your other goats as well they may be infected but not showing signs, at least you got signs from her.
Oh and FYI worm parasites have been really bad this year!!
