Listeria keeps coming to mind as it is more common is youngsters than goatpolio.

I read just the opposite - that polio is more common in kids than adults. Info on the Web is so confusing and contradictive

"Unlike Goat Polio, Listeriosis is more common in adult animals than in kids."

Do they get pooled milk from both moms or each to their own? Maybe, if each gets his own, then the mom is the source of listeriosis? It is one of the things passed through unpaturized milk.

Sheesh- I'm not sure at all about the polio/listeriosis- I was just thinking I remembered that.

I'm giving the fortified vitamin B. It's the best I can do since my vet doesn't believe it's polio and, therefore, wouldn't give me thiamine, though I'm convinced that's what it is. I just went out and gave everyone another injection. The doelings came out of their shelter and started eating grass - the wethers stayed in, and the one is still grinding his teeth. I guess we'll see what daylight brings...

Praying hard for your little ones. I'm sorry you are having to go thru this.

Darn vets, my vet disagrees with my diagnosis on occasion but lucky for me he will still give me what I want.

Hang in there little wether.

Val ((hugs))

as kids we inherit our immune systems from our genetics and develop it through time, for instance worm resistance can be bred into a line, so the all from the same dam thing doesnt really bother me, 4 kids same mom all probably didnt get everything they needed.
Timothy and Orchard are thicker grasses supporting my theory.
Ask your vet what it can hurt if he just gave you some even if he doesnt believe in Goat polio then call it by its proper name Polioencephalomalacia Vets are employed by you I would not settle for such casual dismissal of my concerns. It is in Goat Medicine and is a well documented illness which if you treat with thiamine it will cause improvement within 30 min. Not even close to being a dangerous thing to try. You can buy Thiamine over the counter in tablet form, not ideal but you gotta do what you gotta do.
If you vet persist print off anything you can find about it and give it too him.

If you can't get injectable thiamin, Could you get some in the vitamin section of a local store, and bolus them with enough to count?

Lost the small wether (Picasso). The others are up, out of their shelter and eating grass.

My vet's office just called and said she's on her way. I'm pretty sure she's planning to do a necropsy while here.

This is Picasso at just a few days old.

Hopefully you get your answers from the necropsy. Refridgerate that body. Personally, I'd send it out for a full necropsy with pathologists to look at it and decide what tests should be done.

As for thiamine, it's a water soluble B-vitamin. Complex contains 100mg/ml if I recall - which is half of what injectible Rx Thiamine has in it (I believe it is 200mg/ml), just double the dosage. You can also give it orally. If it was the reason, I would be bet the complex would've helped, but it doesn't sound like it's doing anything...

It appears the kids have white muscle disease, though she had no explanation for the vomiting. She said this has been a weird year with livestock due to the incredibly wet weather we're having. She took a fecal and gave them each a shot of BoSE. I just ordered this to start dosing everyone once a month - Selenium and Vitamin E Gel
