He tried....but the little guy just wouldn't take the bottle...he was gurgling and milk was spilling out... We tried the honey on the nipple...and he LOVED the honey, but it didn't make him any more interested in drinking from the bottle.... we tried giving him a little bowl of it...and he dipped his lip in it and shook is head....

I decided that I would bandage up Cally's bumpy lumpy teat...and let him drink from her other side....OH MY YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THAT LITTLE TAIL WAG....within a minute or so...there was NOTHING...and I MEAN NOTHING left in that side....

SO...at the very least...I know my boy is going to bed tonight with a full little belly....

After he ate....I took the bandage off and milked her other side....it gave me exactly 10 ounces....and I did keep trying ...but alas...that was all she gave...enough to fill the bottle for Decca and fill her little belly.....

While Decca ate, Alfred seemed VERY curious...he was perkier...(probably b/c he was full of Nutri-Drench and mom....) he even tried to nibble my finger and I diverted the nipple for a sec to see if he would give it a suck...but the minute it touched his lips, he turned and lost interest....

Cally's Teat looks A million times better tonight....That Chlorhexidine is MY FAVORITE THING RIGHT NOW....THANKS Minelson for the link to it on Amazon....the biggest bump in the photo above has definitely begun to dry out....it no longer looks white...but now a more brownish color and dry...like it will turn to a scab....and it feels harder....

I'm sure it would be BEST to keep them all separated until this passes ...but...I don't think I could have slept knowing that little guy didn't eat supper...

you had to get milk in him and you did! I am praying for a miracle healing of the both teats tonight so he can get on track tomorrow.

I use chlorhexidine in a spray bottle with water and glycerin to spray after milking. The woman I bought my first dairy goat from (off CL), who has now become a great friend and goat mentor, told me that's what she used and recommended, so that's what I've used the past 2 years. My Alpine doe is having an awful time with fly bites on her udder, and the chlorhexidine clears them right up. I LOVE that stuff!

Sounds like you're on the right track with your little goat family. Keep up the good work!

Just a thought...and I may be WAY off on this....since he really liked the honey on the nipple how about putting some in the bottle? I have never heard of this being done before. I am just the type to try anything. But be careful about messing up the rumen. Baby goats should really only get milk. But maybe a pinch on the inside of the nipple?

But most likely the teats will be all healed up in the morning

I'm sure a little dab wouldn't be much different than a dab on the outside of the nipple...

He had his breakfast this morning from the Good Side
He was a very happy little boy...

Her teat looks a lot better this morning...still not pretty....but clearly healing....

Thanks everyone for the advice & support ....I really appreciate it!!

So...I have an UPDATE......

The Pictures I posted above were taken on 6/18...so...three days ago.....
here it is again:Separation due to sore teat... - Goats

So TWO DAYS LATER...using the Chlorhexidine washed her down before and after milking and also dipped her with this Teat Dip from TSC that contained chlorhexidine as well...
http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...teat-dip-1-gal

I took this Picture LAST NIGHT!! and it looks even better this morning....

Separation due to sore teat... - Goats
If this had been orf, would it have cleared up like this so quickly??

I'm still letting the little guy nurse....and even though I know that probably doesn't need to be washed down after...I'm still doing it and giving her a dip to kill the circle of nasties....

SO....things once again are settling down....I think your Prayers (and the chlorhexidine) Minelson WORKED....

And on another note....look what we found in our coop this morning

hahaha! Love the chicken and duckling pic And soooooooooo happy the problem is clearing up! No I don't think Orf would have cleared up so quick..and nothing seems to help with Orf but time. I think it's some kind of staph thing. It really looks great! Amazing!
