I think you said she lost a lot of blood? If so, I would be giving her the Red Cell for that like the vet said. Treat her for whatever else as you think best.

Well, I think anemia would cause her to be cold. Ayone else know if this could be her issue instead of a calcium issue? You said she lost a lot of blood during kidding, right?

I wonder why he didn't give her a shot of iron? Works alot faster than red cell. You can use the iron available at the feed store. I have seen the dosages online.
You can order MFO from Jeffers. I always have a bottle or 2 on hand.

The Cal MPK at TSC works pretty good but if your vet is suggested Red cell for all theblood loss I would probably do both.

I went to Walmart and can you believe they do not carry Posture-D? I found lots of other calcium type supplements but none with phosphorus. I'll be at TSC first thing in the morning.

Meanwhile Chi Chi is doing better. She is with her babies and she is no longer cold or shivering. She is eating alfalfa with gusto. I got her some fruit flavored Tums and she was thrilled to have several ... so were most of the other new mamas. I will try to milk her in the morning ... I hope that she doesn't kick in to more trembles when I milk. I won't milk her all the way and then I'll put the kids back on her.

Thanks for the help. <3

Shannon I had to buy all the ingredients separately because I couldn't find Posture D either. Super Supplements here had everything separate. I am now giving calcium powder before and after kidding. My girls don't seems to mind and eat it just fine on their grain with some sunflower oil so it sticks.

Yes she did. A ton. I've not seen many goats give birth but this year we had 11 and none lost the amount she did. The afterbirth was three times what the others had (even the others who had triplets) and at one point she squatted to potty and I think it was blood pouring out in addition to urine but it was all just a bloody mess.

I don't know why the vet didn't give her a shot of Red Cell. The assistant was laughing at my urgency-even laughed a bit and made the comment that I "just wanted some sort of treatment". No-I just want her to be okay-so sorry I don't have that cavalier attitude that a "sick goat is a dead goat" that heard one of the other vets utter last year. (We don't use him anymore.) They then told me to stay off the internet but what they do not want to admit is that you folks know more about what is going on with goats than all the large animal vets in the Greater Charlotte area!

Anyhow-fingers crossed she stays in good shape and more info for the goat husbandry notebook!

Give her a banana if you have it. Loaded with potassium and magnesium and they usually like them.

Give us the name and address of the vet clinic, and we'll send them some information.
