Military surplus, ask on craigslist.

Do not pass an old one up just because it is a bit rusty. You may be able to easily clean it up and it could be an older one made of better steel.

Come to think of it, stay away from Japanese made knives too. They flooded the market with substandard metal a few years back. Can't recall what they overmixed in their recipe. But anything made by Gerber or Fiskar should last you for years.
