I scratched my eyeball last winter, walking through the woods. Twig from low hanging branch scraped across my open eye.
It was miserable.
Go to the doctor. Mine was just a 'light abrasion' but it hurt like hell all day, and it wouldn't stop watering.
Your eyes are worth it.

SO! Minelson is one of those goat people who will only feed her goats the best of everything and then she eats fast food!! (stole that from a thread yesterday)...GO TO
THE DR! It will make the dog feel better...remember, it is always funny until someone loses and eye (nice bandage).

If it doesn't feel better by morning, you had better see a doctor.

my mom got a nasty corneal scratch out in the barn a couple years ago and she looked just like you when she got home from the doc and a big bill to go with it.

The patch is off and it's doing really good! It's blurry from the ointment but the pieces of sand feeling has gone from boulder to mile irritation. I think letting it rest tonight will help . ugh. what an ordeal!!!

We are experts here on this..
You need to rinse the eye several times a day with a nice tea.. chamomile is anti-fungal and some thyme or bee balm tea is anti-microbial and will keep it from getting infected. Some comfrey tea will help the scratch to heal. And if it feels hot, then some plantain tea or chickweed tea for anti-inflammatory. That will cool the eye and relieve the swelling.
For the pain (and this from the eye doctor when DH lost a chunk of his eye to a chicken) keep oil in your eye. Mineral oil in a pinch, but a light almond oil or good olive oil works even better.
The oil (the lubricating eye drops are just mineral oil) keeps the lid from rubbing against the scratch with every eye movement adn makes a huge difference in the way your eye feels.

DH has scratched his eye with twigs, lost a piece to the chicken and I got a slice across the lens of my eye from the same bird. DH's healed fine, mine was a flap and bothered me for 3 years. It was only when I forgot the oil at night before sleep.

It will feel better.. it really will.
But until then it is an agony from which there is no escaping..

I was going to suggest taping a tea bag to your eye too. I do it over night whenever my tear duct acts up and makes my eye swollen. You could probably dip your pad in some tea.

If it's not better tomorow, go to the ER!! You of all people know how important eye care is (I know, anybody in the medical fields are the worst patients...) I do not know your situation, but in my state, patients (especially in the ER) can fill out an application for financial consideration if they have no or poor medical coverage. Even our small, non-profit, rural hospital gives discounts or writes the bill off for people-just ask for the form. If all of your local pharmacies are closed, they should send you home with antibiotic drops too.

Take care of yourself! It's going to be hard responding to all these posts with one eye!

You almost got me distracted with the beautiful picture of your goats... and your gorgeous Rocky.... but it didn't work! My tummy was flip flopping just reading about your injury, and the other injuries mentioned. Eyes are nothing to fool with! I'm glad you are feeling better. I am hoping restful sleep tonight will help too!

Keep us posted....

Oh geez! Sounds like you've had quite the adventure. I really have no good advice on eye injuries. I got a very bad cat scratch to the eye when I was 5 or so. I don't remember it much but I do have a scar on my actual eye, but it doesn't effect me. I'll sending healing thoughts your way, and hope you get better soon!

P.S. You totally get brownie points for that eye patch! Pure ingenuity!

I have had a LOT of eye injuries.. GO SEE A DR!!!!

You could even have something in it.a piece of nail could have splintered off... it could be scratched .... lost of things could have happened, but if you end up with a staff infection that eye is done... Dogs have REAL NASTY crap on their nails....

I had a burn in my eye last year, and I got a bad infection.. I had patches on both eyes by the time it was done... don't play wih this... GO SEE AN EYE DR...

And that's all I got to say about that... and I don't do Dr's....

It's much better this morning. It's red and feels like I have to blink more than usual. I'll do some tea and then ointment a few times today and I'll see the vet in the morning.
Thanks for all the ideas, support, well wishes! You all are the greatest friends I have

So glad you're feeling better! There is nothing more painful or concerning in my mind than an eye injury.

Well I had to put the patch back on tonight It's feeling overly dry and like I have to constantly blink. It is waaaay better but still an irritant. I will check it tomorrow with the vet and make sure I am headed for healing!

Same thing happened to me last year. Paw to the left eye. My entire left cornea was abraded. I had positive stain uptake of almost my entire cornea. I was put on tobradex. I was told by the doc steroids are ok if it isn't a viral ulcer. Still erodes now and again. It left a tiny scar......right in front of my pupil. Its like looking through a tear. Wish I had been on doxycycline to prevent a scar.

IS IT ALL BETTER YET?

I do remember where you work, but I also do have to say IMHO it is a true homesteader that goes to the vet for their medical needs!
