I know a nubian doe who, while not so poorly attached of an udder, has teats that look like that. It doesn't look damaged to me. I see no reason to dry her off.

As to your original question what does udder conformation really matter - no, it is not a show thing. An udder with poor attachments is only going to 'break down' with time and become worse and worse. A low slung, poorly attached udder means more opportunity for injury and mastitis. Those teats may be difficult to milk and I imagine it's hard for her kids to nurse as well.

I'm wondering why she should be dried off? As to fixing the udder... I think the skin is just very stretched and there's no fixing that? A lot of human women would be very happy if that were possible

My Dora has large teats but a very tight and high udder. Her teats, I find somewhat difficult to milk out. The oriface is small and some days I can't get my fingers completely around her teats. I have to start down low on the teat and work my way up. That is the way she freshened as a FF. Definitely a hand workout. Dora is Alpine X Saanen/Togg. Thankfully her daughter isn't that way.

I can't milk those cone teats at all. My wrists and hands can't take it.

Neosporin is not your friend. Seriously. Even our medical doctor says not to use it. Over using it causes the same problems with resistant bacteria on the skin, PLUS, with that goop on her udder, and she's lying down in the dirt.... well, with all due respect, it's not something I'd want on my goat's udder.

I have just been milking her and applying udder balm. I clean them really well before and after. Seems to be doing fine. I use a milker so the size of teats not so much a problem.

Big teats are usually genetic, not a result of the doe being overbagged. Sure, teats start out smaller, but if the genetics are for small teats they will generally not get huge regardless. If the genetics are for large teats, they will get large over the course of a few lactations whether or not the doe is overbagged. In this case you have genetically large teats that don't have great delineation, but should be easy enough to milk as long as the orifices are not too tight.
