I am so touched by every single comment on this thread! How very wonderful that everyone here truly understands what it means to really love and be loved. Living with loss of one kind or another is common ...but loving someone and having someone really love you is very special indeed...made even more so because you have the capacity to recognize it. The pictures are priceless. Thank you for sharing with us even at this time of grief. I agree with others who say that you will see her again and it will be a joyous reunion!

I am so, so sorry Justine She was so lucky to have you through her life and to have you with her in the end.

I am sure that somewhere, Brandy and Gretta are off getting into trouble. Probably eating the insulation around the afterlife.

Thank you all so much. I am doing better tonight but I know tomorrow walking into that barn is going to be the worst. It will be the first morning in 10yrs she hasn't been there to greet me .

Condolences.

We know from the day we let them into our hearts, that one day they will break them.
The joy we gain by loving them will, in time, once again outweigh the sadness they can bring to our lives.

You & Brandy were lucky to have each other & I know you have great memories to carry you through until you meet again. What a pretty girl, RIP Brandy.
Hugs Justine, it's sucks Big time when we have to endure so much pain from loosing a dear friend & I too have no words to make it better but I wish I did.

Too bad she was a nice looking doe.

Does she have any offspring in your herd?

I had this doe that I really loved, lived to be 14.

When she died I really missed having her around.

However she has a grandaughter in the herd now that could be her reincarnated.

She doesn't look exactly like my beloved goat as much as she milks and acts exactly like her. So much that without even saying anything to them both my wife and my farmsitter noticed it.

So she may come to visit you again if you have any relatives in your herd

Hollowdweller I do have some of her offspring in my herd . I have one daughter (used to have three) and 2 of her grandkids. The daughter is the SPITTING image of her momma except in color and her daughter (granddaughter) is the spitting image color wise.

Today was a good day...but last night was hard. I know I am going to have moments where it just hits me afresh again. It did just a second ago when I pulled up the goats records to input some info and her name wasn't on the roster. It feels like there is this huge whole where Brandy once was...but I have to remind myself this farm is her legacy. She sparked this whole journey and I will always see her when I look at the herd. Oh geez now I am getting tears! It is funny how I miss all these little things about her, she had this odd shoulder blade and I will miss even that.

Good thing is that my friend came over today with her 4 1/2yr old daughter and they went on a morning walk with me as well helping with morning chores. That lifted my spirits having my 4 1/2yr old buddy open gates and carry grain, she is such a farm girl at heart and loves helping me around the place when she can.

I had this old doe, a purebred, Deena. Well Deena always was the first to stick her head thru the keyhole looking for grain.

She lived to be 12 but for probably a year after she died I'd still miss her head sticking thru.
