I did try to splint it, but it was mission impossible! I ended up using little strips of duct tape and a piece of fencing wire wrapped in bandage. But it just kept slipping back around and the other chicks started to peck at her leg with the bandage on it, not good. So I took it off again.
But I'll look at that link and see if theres anything more I can do. She breaks my heart.

Maybe you could take a small tiny piece of pvc sink pipe and cut a slit down the side then put it on the chicken? If that makes sense? It would at least hold the leg straight. Im always the keeper and healer of hurt animals. I have a two year old cat that is 3 legged. A raccoon bit her leg off when she was 5 weeks old, when we found her in the barn, only her bone was hanging out of her arm. My dad said we should just put her down, but with some home vetting, blue-kote and many bandage changes, she is one healthy happy kitty! I vote keep the chicken!

I had a chicken with a broken leg once and used a popcicle stick with adhesive tape above and below the break. Chick walked odd, but she could run like a flash.

Gimpy is even more adorable than I had imagined! What a babydoll! Cant wait to see the pics with her goat friend!

Otter, your rooster is gorgeous, and your offer is so thoughtful.... but I have no way to hatch eggs. :/ If that changes, you will be the first to know. Thank you for your kindness!

Now Im curious.... how many here post on the chicken board here? Can we see a show of hands while we wait for the pic of Gimpy & Salma?

Oooooh man! You're making me even sadder that my incubator's temperature spiked to 110 the day before my eggs were supposed to hatch. The mom looks like a Silver Laced Wyandotte but lays green eggs. Dad looks like a slw too. They belong to a friend that lives out of town. Gotta make the trip back there for more.

He is pretty - which is why every year I give away a few batches of eggs for postage (or, if you're close, come get some)

The extension office may rent you an incubator. Usually it's actually free, you put down a deposit and you get it back when you bring back the incubator. Some universities will do the same. Those 2 places and schools will sometimes hatch eggs for you. The 4Hers and students get to learn about incubation and you get the chicks back after they've been "Ooooh"ed over for a day

Ani's Ark, it looks like a slipped tendon, which I don't think can be fixed unless you have an avian vet have at it. Most of us here won't go to that length, but if you live near a vet school, you might see if they'd be interested in doing it for the experience.
But if she's happy and eating - don't worry about it too much! We had one so bad once that all she did was flop around. But she weaseled into our hearts so we nursed her along and by the time she was a year old she was walking, running, scratching, pecking, laying and lording it over the other hens. We called her Twist, for the twisted legs.
