fellini, I am glad the worst is over for you. We have a creek that we have to cross that floods everytime it rains a lot. It finally went back down under the bridge last night. Makes for some fun times.

Just checking to see what the adjuster & how everyone's holding up there. I hope the goats get a roof soon. Pretty windy & really cold here today too but nothing like what some of you folks dealt with.

I too was checking to see if there was any posts about how things went with the adjuster... (we've decided not to bother turning ours in... Sort of took it as a *sign* that hubby was actually home when the roof went (he is an owner operator ... drives for Allied, gone LOTS... this is the first time he's EVER been home for a storm damage fixer upper day.. last year lightening hit my electric fence charger, blew it to bits... took out the phone line, the modem, the dish receiver.. worst was it totally fried the well pump.. no water, no tv, no phones .. can't remember where hubby was, but it was somewhere nice LOL.. tree came down on the kidding barn last spring (right before kidding) impaled the roof.. almost crushed my son, who was carrying hay... of course Ed was again, gone..horrid ice storm back in '09 (I think??) almost 4inches of ice!!! trees down everywhere, no power... that's the year we decided to quit having jan babies~~~ it was the middle of kidding season... pulling our selves to the barn along ropes.. just sliding along on the ice.. kidded most of the does out with no power (in the dark barn, no way to wash/dry towels.. no blowdryers to warm up kids ect) one doe kidded while we were in the house.. one baby SLID out of the barn (she kidded by the door..under he went).. slid down the hill, around the side.. we found her with her one baby.. knew she had looked bigger.. heard a whine.. went around the barn and found Bob Barker (one of the LGDs).. he had the soggy newborn cuddled up in his front paws.. had cleaned it completely and was trying to lay over it and keep it warm!!! GOOD dog!).. Ed was in Florida for that storm LOL... a small tornado hit late one night (back when I lived here alone, before the kids moved to the Ozarks and joined me)... looked out the front door in time to see a big tree in the front yard, lift up out of the ground (roots and all).. tilt toward the house and then fly off the other way.. taking out my fence.. I felt like I was in a scene from the movie the River (where they were out in the howling wind/rain trying to save the farm).. I was out for hours trying to fix the downed fence in the dark, alone, crying in the rain... Ed was at his parents house, having dinner.... SO???? this time.. Ed (who has always felt badly about missing all the damage repairs) will be fixing the roof on his own, on saturday.. ME??? I plan on kicking back and watching a movie !!!! (okay, that's what I HAD told him I was going to do.. but in truth, the vet is coming out and we are pulling blood on ALL the goats)

sure hope you get your barn fixed back up... I know how worried I was last year with the kidding barn roof-less a week before kidding started!

The adjuster came out and I think he was probably very resonable. Insurance will pay for replacing half the roof. Most of south half is what was rolled up. There is still some good tin up there. We are going to try to salvage materials to box in the south side of the barn. So the 60x30' section will be repaired.

One thing that is very frustrating is both my cows and goats milk production has really dropped. I hope I can reverse this. My milk customers are wanting more and more milk. Anyone have any ideas?

Glad you are all okay. Sorry about the barn. I would guess that as long as they are not injured..just keep the routine you've always had. They are probably still skittish, especially if the wind is still blowing fairly high. Plus, I'm taking a guess that your temps are falling like here in Iowa. Such swings are probably hard on the milk production too.

Best of luck and hope all is back to "normal" very soon.

We are still dealing with the insurance company when the last high wind took half the carport and damaged siding on the house. Bids bids and more bids. Good luck with yours.

I was just informed that ours is not a carport but considered a patio cover because 1 it is attached to the house and 2 its over 20 feet.
