I looked up the Maori word for snow - "hukarere"- Huka for short?
and the Maori word for cold - which is "makariri" No idea the pronunciation.

Thanks for all the ideas! I haven't been on to read your posts due to the influena that bit me, and yes, even after the flu shot this year. Apparently there is a strain or 2 that are not covered this year, and they are not being picked up by the rapid swab test being done in the office. So be careful everyone!! There is now a nation wide shortage of testing kits and Tamiflu, and the vaccine supply is also nearing exhaustion...

We haven't settled on a name yet. I like Nanook too, hubby is leaning more towards something like Spunky, she is by far the liveliest kid born yet this month. Guess her mama knew what she was doing when she let her out in that bitter cold!

My vote is for Mercedes like from Call of the Wild because she acts like a princess even though she's on the frozen Yukon Trail. lol
