I don't know why for sure, but I do know that boer horns lay closer to the head than dairy goats, so probably less likely to get caught in things and maybe because boers are not worked with as closely as dairy goats. I think also that boers can be shown with horns, while dairy goats cannot.
The 4H kids in this area have to disbud their boers...my friend is working on getting the polled gene into grade boers (or whatever they are called), so that they won't have to be disbudded for 4H shows, etc.
