I am so sorry to hear about your loss! So sad to lose an animal so abruptly! Sending lots of (((hugs))) your way!

I agree that we are sometimes at the mercy of our vets. About a year ago my mastiff was in labor, I watched her closely for hours, I had a notebook of temps, and any and all observations for the last week or so and lots of details of the last 24 hours, contractions, discharge etc... (I am a bit obsessive at times lol) I noticed her labor was longer than usual, then noticed a dark green discharged which usually means detached placentas I called and rushed her to the vet asap and he declared she wasn't in labor... I argued with him that I KNEW she was in labor showed him notes for the last 24 hours but he convinced me I wasn't a vet and he knows best. He kept her under observation for another day. Noticed more green discharge, but no signs of labor, finally I begged him to please do a c-section. He reluctantly did and found a large male puppy blocked the birth canal, all the pups but 1 were dead and her body had come completely out of labor because she was unable to pass the large pup. The surviving pup only lasted till about 4 am the next day... If he had waited much longer my beloved pet would've died also.

Its a hard and heartbreaking lesson to learn. But if it happens again I will be sure not to be pushed around by my vet. Yes, they had years of expensive education and know what is the norm in general for different animals. But we know what is and isn't normal for our specific animal and that should not be taken lightly.

I feel your loss as I lost one of my goats two days ago. She was eating, playing, jumping fences on Thursday night. Early friday morning she was laying down w/legs tucked under (goat resting position). Friday afternoon, still there and wouldn't get up. Vet said barber pole worms, said she could tell she was anemic the minute she saw her in my car. I feel stupid that I didn't know. I had been watching my nubian who seemed maybe off. ( Hard to tell w/her and I would never be able to lift her.) I'm so sorry.

I ran into the same thing with the Nuflor. It's supposed to be long acting and the vet gave Gretta 1 dose and said if she wasn't better to give her another dose in 3 days. Then someone from here told me to give it everyday. I convinced the vet to give me enough to give her a dose every day for 6 days.
I like to "verify" vets diagnosis and dosing here on the forum. There are no vets around here that know goats....The vet I work for is learning a lot, from me!
(((((hugs))))) I'm sorry Zoey is gone and you have to struggle with her body and everything. Just so sad

I'm so so sorry for your loss, she sounds like she was such a sweetheart. I was talking to my dad this morning and the hard thing about this is that everything is a learning curve, and unfortunately that curve is with the goats. Sometimes we learn the hard way and to be blunt, it plain sucks. Last spring we lost out angel Selene, a Nubian doe to milk fever. She was carrying quads and we didn't know the signs or what to look for. The folks on here helped me right away when I posted about what to do, what to get and what it was that she had. Unfortunately it was too late. However, like I said its a learning curve. We nearly lost another doe last month to milk fever but we knew the signs and what we had to do right away in order to save her. I suggest everyone take a look at the thread for goat health care to get an idea of how important it is to have things on hand bevause you never know when you might need them, and when you do, you need it ASAP.
Again I'm so sorry, and we all feel for you. Good luck and let us know if you find out what it was.

I am so sorry

My vet wants $250 for a necropsy! I find that a crazy price and $50 is far more reasonable but I also understand the diffculty in getting her into the car alone. I had to do that with a goat who weighed about the same as me. I had to get her up and into my SUV. So I tied her and made a ramp and pulled her up into it and it was still so hard to do.

I go to two different vets and they say to give Nuflor then 48 hours later give another shot, it works on any goat baby with the rattles.

It does sound like your doe had pneumonia, I hope you can get some help in burying her. That part is so hard
