I took a handful of BOSS and threw it out into an area of our garden to grow with the Amaranth. When the seed heads showed up, I bought some cheap netting from the fabric shop in town and covered the heads with that (after the bees did their thing with the seedheads). This worked great!

If hanging from rafters, simply get some wide "flashing" (a thin type of tin), cut a small hole in middle and place it on the string on top of what you're drying. If mice attempt to get to the goodies, they slip on the flashing and fall to the ground.

Thanks for posting that. I looked it up a few times and wasnt finding all of the nutritional reasons for its usefulness to goats. (not that I spent a bunch of time on it)

Now that I know, yes pumpkin seeds are a good source of all the major things listed in addition to helping with worm loads. (again not trying to derail the thread, just talking alternative things to grow)

Just pumpkin seeds or squash in general? My chickens love pumpkin seeds. I had some extras this year. I cut them in half and the hens go crazy. Not too found of the pumpkin itself though.

Any squash seeds would be a good addition. Pumpkins are simply a specific shape of squash that ranges more then one species.
