How's Thai?

Wondering how Thai is holding up? Does she need anything? Can we help?

Sherry in Iowa 11/16/12 05:13 AM

Sure glad you posted this Kris. I was wondering about her too. I hope someone can let us know what she needs, and how she is doing.

CaliannG 11/16/12 08:13 AM

Add me to the "wondering" list. Hope she is okay. Wish I knew what I could do for her.

andabigmac 11/16/12 09:16 AM

Wait! What? I haven't gone that far back yet! What's wrong with Thai? I haven't been through many posts yet but there sure seems to be a lot of sad things going on.

I can't leave for 5 minutes...

prairiedog 11/16/12 09:37 AM

Her house burned down

KrisD 11/16/12 10:05 AM

Her kids are all right and she physically unharmed but they lost everything including her dogs and cats.

andabigmac 11/16/12 11:33 AM

O. M. G. She must be a mess. Does she need help with anything? Please tell me she was insured. I am just sick about this. I couldn't imagine losing my pets.

Thai- I'm so sorry you're going through this. I don't have words.

Backfourty,MI. 11/16/12 11:38 AM

She's hanging in there. They are split up & friends houses but she's so thankful everyone is fine.

I'd been wondering about you too, sent you a PM cause you hadn't been on in so long. Hope everything is well with you & your family.

Otter 11/16/12 11:40 AM

The last I heard from her, just a few days ago, she was staying with friends, waiting to duke it out with the insurance folks and mentally and emotionally wiped.

She found 2 of her outdoor cats, and her goats and some of her dogs are ok, but she is heartbroken over the ones she lost, naturally.

So far she has said that she doesn't need any help, I wish she'd let us.
I am hoping to hear from her again soon, and I'll let everyone know if I do.

I just read that. Thank you. You are so sweet. My computer had a porn virus (disgusting) that came attached to a price list for pvc fittings for my fodder system. It wiped out everything. My DH actually does IT/IS for a living but has been working 60 hour weeks on a system revamp at his job then coming home and doing chores. I can imagine he didn't want to deal with another computer. I didn't want to bother him but I finally lost it the other day because I've had a goat pneumonia problem here. They've all pulled out of it thank God. I was going to ask about the vaccine but sort of got wrapped up in all of the issues people are having. There's been a serious run of bad luck on here lately. I wouldn't have been much help but I feel bad for not being here. Sorry everybody.

I have been messaging with her. It's amazing how some people help and some people are idiots. She is having a hard time which is totally understandable. She will let us know if there is anything we can do to help. The fire was deemed caused by electrical malfunction. She lost 4 cats, Sophie her dog and her iguana. Her 10 year old Golden retriever made it out thank God. The losses and they way they died is devastating to say the least. :(

CaliannG 11/16/12 03:46 PM

Min, if it can be a comfort to her (don't know if she SAW them, or anything), but from a former firefighter: MOST of the time, people and animals die peacefully from smoke inhalation before the fire ever touches them. Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen cyanide (from burning carpets and other poly-type things in a house) are breathed in and cause animals/people to just fall asleep and not wake up.

So unless she SAW or HEARD them...ummm...go....then most likely they died gently, from smoke inhalation, and did NOT die in pain. The fire would have only burned their bodies.

Small comfort, I know......but in some terrible, traumatic situations, a small comfort is better than none at all.

I heard Sophie die as I was breaking out the family room window. One loud heartbreaking yelp. I went back into the house about 4 times and the smoke does hurt.

Thanks for thinking of me. Yes it was determined to be electrical, it took the fire dept 15 mins and 37 seconds to get there with water and it was too late. I made it worse by opening doors and breaking windows, I caused it to go faster but I wanted my animals out. Neither the fire dept or the insurance company blames me for it.

We saved my 10 yr old Golden and my 12 yr old Siamese. We had Sophie and the youngest cat out, my son put them in the garage and they went out the cat door and ran back into the house. The last thing I remember seeing before the smoke overwhelmed me was Sophie running back into the family room. Our other housecats hid from me and could not find them. So I lost five of my pets :( plus the bearded dragon ( not iguana Min :) ) which was stupid since he was in a tank and I could have just picked him up out of it!

The insurance company says it is going to take about 3 weeks to replace our personal items, I have no idea how to list 10 years of our lives and possessions. Not sure how long it is going to take to deal with the remains of the house. About 2/3 of it- both floors are now in the crawl space, they have released it and I am suppose to find someone to demo it. I thought the insurance company would have done that.

I saved lots of pictures, I have my kids bronze baby shoes, their baby handprints which I am happy to have. I think of random stupid things I will miss or lost, like my cool kitchen gadets and items. I try not to think about the animals because that one hurts the most. The rest are things that while some cannot be replaced meant something to me or I liked it and those things I can deal with.

My goats are fine, I go there once a day to feed them, my neighbors have been great and bring them water, and a propane heater so it doesn't freeze, which honestly scares me right now but I appreciate it. My two LGD are alive, but Teddy seems depressed. My two farm cats hid in the garage eves and are fine as well. Nice people I have never seen before realized the buck pen was getting hot so they let out the boys and Teddy. So my boys were in the main herd for a few days so now I will have to lute them all. I lost all my goat supplies so for now I will start with a bottle a lute and a bunch of needles.

Yes we are scattered at different friends, and I appreciate them for it but I just want to go home.

Oh and I had a bad virus once not porn tho and I re-started in safemode by pressing F8 or F11 a lot when it is starting up. Then I restored to a previous date by typing rsturi ( I think ) in the windows start button on the bottom left of your screen. Or you could just type system restore in the search to find it. It got rid of mine, it was that horrible Banker Fox one and it took over my laptop.

KrisD 11/16/12 06:47 PM

Thai my heart goes out to you we had a house fire years ago and luckily my dad was there to help me or it would have been a total loss. My kitchen fire was started by one of my dogs and to this day it terrifies me that a fire will start. I also had a chimney fire several years after that and luckily dad was there for that one too. I dodged two bullets I pray to God there won't be a third.
If you need help restocking your oat supplies I think your goat sisterhood would be happy to help you. I personally would be willing to order stuff for you and have it delivered to your door. Please let us know when you get a bit settled so we can help. We WANT to help you! Make a list when you get time of the things you need to restock on and we will start sending them to you.

Sadly, she did see and hear :( So they did not die gently. they died a horrible, burning death that was witnessed by Thaiblue. She is not finding any comfort because of this. It is the worst case scenario :(

andabigmac 11/16/12 10:01 PM

A Goatie Shower! I'm in. Maybe if Thai made a wish list on Hoegger or Jeffers or wherever we could call in and they could ship it to her. Do you think if we created an account that we all had the password to we could order stuff and if it made Thai feel better we could see if they would keep her address private. Or we could buy gift certificates and put them on her account. Maybe we could send money to her vet and he could replenish her vaccines etc. How can I help Thai? I always feel so impotent when I can't help. This would make me happy.

KrisD 11/16/12 10:32 PM

Andabigmac I'm going to start a new thread for it.

andabigmac 11/16/12 10:49 PM

Excellent!

CaliannG 11/16/12 11:42 PM
