I'm so sorry! There is nothing worst than dogs getting into our beloved goats. I woke up and walked out of my bedroom back in 2002 to the sound of dog(s) barking, at that time I lived in a big old farm house for which i have replaced since then and I had shut the bedroom door and didn't hear anything until I walked through the bedroom door into the hall way at 5:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning, I was getting up early to go to the lake for the day boating. The moment I opened the door I was in a run out the front door, no shoes, short tail nightie and I was on a mission, going out and seeing my name sake Momagoat dead and Popa laying in the pasture not moving and not knowing if he was dead or not, but I was still in a run up to my upper goat lot where the sounds of the dogs at time was coming from. I rounded the corner screaming but the three dogs could not hear me screaming the whole 100 yards or more that I had ran. One dog was in with my kids, the huskey, beautiful dog and a black one was on the outside of the fence snapping throught the fence at the goats as their were cornered by the Huskey and another dog was running along the inside of the fencing trying to get out, i guess it had heard me screaming as I ran around the corner thoses goat which there was 6 or 7 in the upper lot at that time turned to look in my directions as to say OH MY GOD THERE'S MOMA !!! I was creaming and crying like a crazy women and I could have killed the dogs bare handed. The black one on the outside of the fence ran by me and disappeared and smallest one managed to get out of the fence and ran off, and the blue eyed Huskey WANTED TO PLAY !!! it was a young dog about 1 year old or so old and it had a name tag and phone number on it's collar. I leashed the dog about 500 feet from my goats and ran back to check on everyone, Momagoat was gone, dead, Popa was mauled really badly and had puncture wounds all over, both ear's were ripped and he was covered in dog slime, and blood, broken skin from either teeth or claws on both sides from front to back. teeth punctures through both back legs. I called the County Sheriffs office and they told me that I had to call the County Animal Control Center , well I called them and told them I want an Animal Control Person here NOW!! and low and behold an animal control OFFICER was at my house in about 20 minutes: He took a report and pictures and took the dog and I told him don't release the dog back to the owners. I told him I wanted what every charges that I could possibly charge the owners with I was welling to do it. Well about three or four days later the officer contacted me and they had investigated the my area I live in and multiple incidents from several people that had livestock, chickens, pigs, rabbits and even goats killed and or injured from these very same 3 dogs within five miles of my house and the descriptions fit the dogs to a T. I worked with the Animal Control Director along with about 5 other people that had animals injuried and or killed and we all took the owners to court through the Animal Control Center. The Animal Control Center worked with the County Prosecutors and with all our testimonies and as eyewittnesses the owners of the dogs had to pay each of us for damages. Not one cent was paid by any of us. The Huskey was the only one that Animal Control had but the ownes stated one of the dogs never came back home after the morning of the attack at my house and the other one they said was a stray that they didn't addmit to owning but the man reported he shot it himself after all the reports and charges against them started adding up. The Huskey was put down under the court order: Its been almost 11 years and Popa is still with me but he hasn't ever been the same and never will be after the trauma of that dog attack, his injuries healed but the emotional trauma he'll never get past that and he lives daily with it. He is so scared of everything but he does best by himself so he has his own pasture which is about 200 feet by 100 feet and shares a section of the barn with the other but they can't get to him, its kinda like he's so shy that they shunn him so he has always been a loner and doesn't want anyone except me around him, he and I are bestest buds. I hope the owners own up to their dogs and I hope that your goats recover from the trauma and injuries. It's a long road for the recovery.

Thanks everyone...They finally stopped shaking and 1 is not bad only a couple bites on his inner legs...Luckily they have lots of hair at the moment or it could have been worse.
1 has a lot of marks but not bad, he is limping but was out grazing for leaves in the yard for awhile.
I am really worried about the last boy. His neck is just shredded, and his inner legs are bit pretty bad. Not sure he will pull through.
I am pretty sure that the dog was injured, it hasn't come out of its barrel all day. I have kept watch. I would like to think they were beating the hell out of it. My boys were very protective of each other.

No we don't. We use it for flushing and cleaning wounds and also for cleaning the surgery area on the animal before doing the surgery. We use the scrub for that and then wipe off with alcohol.
Usually the antibiotics prevent abcesses from forming on bite wounds when you catch it early enough.

It is about time to go put the boys away for the night. They are all out looking for leaves before bed.
I am really worried about Bobby's neck, it is so tore up. I cleaned it up good and it looks worse than I originally thought. He has been down all day until now. so I will let him graze for a bit.
Bubba has bite marks and is sore but has been out in the yard most of the day, a little limp but he is putting weight on it now.
Cody has so much hair that he only has a few spots on his inner legs...No punctures on the outside.

Ohhh, your little Cliff was such a good looking boy. Such a sweet face. The entire situation makes my stomach hurt.
I can't tell you how sorry I am. I'll be keeping your boys in my thoughts.

Buck smell can *usually* be better with cheap toothpaste. Just slather it on and wash it off. As for your boys, I am so sorry they were attacked. Do you happen to live by the woman in Utah County that just had 18 sheep killed?
If your other boys are still acting shocky sprinkle a pinch of cayenne on their tongues. It really does work to help pull them out of it. Cayenne pepper - powder - Bulk Herb Store

Been thinking about your boys this morning. I bet they will be stiff, but I hope they are on the mend. Like someone else said, this is definitely a nightmare that rests at the back of most of our minds. Whether it's dogs, coyotes, or dog/coyote packs, they are worrisome.
As far as your hands..you might sprinkle baking soda on them, and carefully pour a wee bit of vinegar on them. There will be a chemical reaction take place..keep it away from you face. We use this all the time on our dogs that play with skunks. It really works on them..maybe it would work on your hands too.
I was thinking that maybe you could use vinegar for the wounds on your goats too.

thanks guys...As soon as it gets light I will head out and check on them....DH went out and all 11 does are so nervous and slept outside right by the fence next to the house. My Boy Cody spent the night in a little pen next to the girls. He only has a few bites on his legs. and a few marks on his face.
I am very stiff and sore this morning, I can only imagine what the boys will be like.

I don't know how bad the fires were in your area last summer but the mountains around me are bare. This is pushing more animals down to look for food. Besides the deer and elk I've seen more coyote and foxes etc. There have been a lot of mountain lion sightings down low by hunters. I hope it doesn't get too ugly down here. Or up there for that matter.

We haven't seen anything down here, but there may be mountain lions around. This we know was the dog, because he attacked my doe in aug. They said they were going to get rid of him, but decided to keep him on a chain instead....The chain was broken.
The does are so nervous....With the buck pen empty and being scared, they are all staying right up by the house....They feel safer out in the open I think.

I got the 2 boys cleaned up this morning that were not extreme.
Cody is back to normal, and Bubba is sore and a little limp when he walks but I think he will be fine.
Bobby (I can't clean him without someone to hold him) is eating and drinking and will stand for a few minutes but just has this look, like he has given up. I am not sure what to do about him.

Can you give him some banamine? He might just be in a lot of pain and not actually giving up. Dogs tend to shake their victims so he probably has a lot of bruising you can't see. Tri-Care isn't the best for puncture wounds but I love the numbing qualities it has. I'm trying to think of what else would have an anesthetic property with out being too thick for the wounds to drain. Do you have access to comfrey or arnica?

I do think he is in pain. I just gave him the last of the banamine that I have. Hopefully that will help. I am just not sure what to do about his neck. I shaved as short as I could cleaned it good and put some cream over the wounds. the vet had me get it after the last attack...kind of an antibiotic cream. but I am thinking I will get the spray that minelson recommended.

I would get some more banamine too. You will probably need it.
