Dont know but fluids might help move any toxins out. Cud may give her something she missing. I think she needs to be fully examined if your fears are true an xra should find it

By the look on my barn cam she seems to be resting comfortably. I haven't gone down there yet....letting them sleep in this morning. Plus I just dread "treating" her.
I'm heading out now. I'll call the vet again when I come back in.

Pony makes HUGE cud...both sides and he looks like a chipmunk. Usually later in the day, but I think I can swipe one easily from him.
I have been giving her a large dose of probios every day.

Cannon_Farms 10/23/12 08:45 AM

Unprosed probotics better thsn processed. On my phone tyipng is hard forgive any mistakes

Minelson 10/23/12 09:24 AM

What would be better for me to use than Probios?

Minelson 10/23/12 09:35 AM

She seems the same as last night. This morning She ate some alfalfa and she even ate some oats. Her movements are somewhat jerky and swaying. Her eyes seem very wide open. She still seems like a strong wind could blow her over. But she is out..laying in the grass, chewing her cud, watching Frankie graze. Flossie is standing next to her like a body guard. Both Frankie and Flossie are intent on protecting her.
So eating and chewing cud are all good things. Being able to walk is a good thing too. It's just that there is no improvement.

Is she getting banamine?

Minelson 10/23/12 09:57 AM

I just talked to the vet. He is thrilled that she is eating and chewing cud. He wants to keep her on the Tetracycline. He feels it is a systemic condition and the Tetracycline is best for treating that. He said the Neomycin would only treat the gut and he wants to cover all bases with the Tetra in case it's in her spinal cord. Her says that recovery will take a long time and to give the Tetracycline 2 weeks and then do bloodwork again to see where she is at.

Found this:

Whenever a goat is ill, the use of an immune system booster is recommended. PolySerum or BoviSera are good injectable over-the-counter immune system boosters.

Mamahen might be on to something there. Anything to booster her right now.

Greta, I am praying for you girl!

I think the x-ray is a good idea and I would do the Neomycin. It's oral. I did that with a standard LaMancha. The dosage is the same though.

Remember the "Sure Champ" I showed you in the meat goat barn that day? It had the little square dosing cup that comes with it. It has Vita-Ferm in it. It is a supplement but it too helps the gut to absorb as much nutrients as possible. Keep up the B-vits too.

I went on the website. Sounds like a perfect product but I'm very afraid of adding any selenium to her diet. I'm going to send them an email

Goat Serum from Hoeggers' is another good one. Nowadays we keep BoviSera on hand because it's cheaper but I would use Goat Serum if I could afford it.

Does she like beer? It's certainly pepped up every off-color goat we've given it to. Some love it and others gag over the taste--but it's worth a try. My British shepherd friend says dark lager is best.

What a great idea, Mamahen!

I also second stealing a cud and giving it to her. All of the antibiotics she has been pumped with can't be good for her gut flora, and probiotics just do not cover all bases.

I am glad Gretta is hanging in there! Remember, as long as there is life, there is hope.

Edited to add: I didn't notice it at the time, or for some time afterwards, but this was my 5,000th post. Maybe that will bring good luck or something? Like, since I posted it on THIS thread, it means everything has to turn out alright? I am not normally superstitious; I've heard that superstition causes bad luck.
