I'm a new milk goat momma!!!!!!!!!!
 Thanks so much to someone on this board..who shall remain nameless until I find out whether to mention her or not..I was put on to two Alpine milk goats. I am beyond thrilled. My prayers were doubly answered.
One is six and named Lucille. One is twoish and called Peaches. Lucille will continue to be milked when she comes here and the really nice fella is going to stop milking Peaches and he's going to get her bred. He is also going to deliver the girls. I'm just sayin'..:spinsmiley: Just HAD to share. |
Congratulations
|
woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you! :) :)
|
Thanks you guys. I've never had Alpines before..but I'm willing to bet that I'll LOVE them.
|
I always loved my girls, only thing I didn't like is they could be bullies when they wanted to with their herd mates. But I did love the temperament on my ladies. I would though when you milk chill their milk down as fast as possible, I noticed in mine their milk tended to be a bit more goaty in flavor but it could have just been mine.

The fella said to be super clean and to quickly chill the milk down. I am just so relieved to have found a milk source. Does this mean anything to Alpine owners? First Milker is: Elmwood Gouda's Peaches $250 http://adgagenetics.org/GoatDetail.a...ber=A001507020 Second Milker is: Pearl Valley Lilac's Lucille $300 http://adgagenetics.org/GoatDetail.a...ber=A001378084 http://www.elmwoodacres.com/sales.html I don't have a pic of Peaches yet. |
Your links didn't work, but these two should work for those looking.

Thanks so much for the help. The Internet and computer are not always my friends.

Beautiful animals!!!!!

JBarGFarmKeeper...she's the BEST. She gave me a heads up on a listing that she found. She was SO helpful. I cannot thank her enough!
That's what is so nice about this homesteading goat board. I may not post a lot..I may do things differently than some..but there's still that respect and concern that we all share for each other. You don't find that in many places on the Internet anymore. That's what drew me here years ago..that's why I continue to stay. Anyway...thank you JBarGFarmKeeper...I will think of ya everytime I see those preciouis new goats. LOL..by the by..we picked up 40 plus butternut squash..I've never canned them before..any ideas? |

Oh color me jealous!!!!!!!
THOSE genetics, already appraised, at that price is a STEAL!! Lots of my favorites in those pedigrees including Hoaches, Pearl Valley & Mamm-key... And the Pearl Valley doe has her SG too! More info on ADGA Superior Genetics here: Superior Genetics If you grow tired of them, I'll happily take them! :D Huge congrats. |
Congratulations! You'll love your new girls; I'm sure of it!
|
Congratulations!!!

Ohhh, Sherry, those are some GORGEOUS pedigrees! And Lucille is *beautiful*! I'm with Crystal, if you decide you don't want them anymore, call me!
And if those are the prices for SG does in Kansas, I need to bring home some during my next trip! Good grief! Gena, do you know where to find more of those? And how many do you think I could fit into the back of a Minivan? :D Sherry, you are going to adore them. Alpines are wonderful! |
Thanks everyone..I am totally excited and have to find some patience. The man was so nice. He is going to stop milking Peaches..he has a young Alpine buck that he will try and breed her to before he hauls them here. He said we could just continue milking Lucille through the winter. My next dilema will be finding a breeding mate. While I do not show or want to..I definitely do not want her genetics to be lost. He said she has never raised kids..he has always taken them..and shown. Maybe later..some of you that really like her bloodlines will want her kids..I won't be keeping any kids. I just want the milk girls!
Oh, the Alpine buck that he wants to breed to Peaches is actually Lucilles son..lol. |

Sherry, Are you going to the goat expo in Des Moines? :)
|
Congratulations on your 2 new beautiful girls! So exciting when your finally getting the animals you've been waiting for!
As for the Butternut squash, I grow a lot of them & I don't can them but I cook it & freeze it. I put as much as needed for a meal in a freezer bag, get as much air out as I can & then stack the bags flat on top of each other. They don't take up much space that way either. You can add a little brown sugar before freezing or wait until you thaw & heat. If I was going to can any I would make up Butternut Squash soup & then can that. |
Aw, shucks, folks. :ashamed: This is getting embarrassing.
Caliann, I don't DO Alpines. I know this man by reputation although I fully expect to introduce myself to him at the Buck Show in a few weeks. Mostly, just so I can tell him in person how happy he has made Sherry! :goodjob: I just keep my eyes open and pay attention. I have my "hand" in many pots and when I saw what I thought she might be looking for, I thought I would send the info her way. I am just glad that the Lord was able to use me to help His humble servant fill a need in her life. :bowtie: If I can help...let me know |
Thanks Backforty..I think I want to just "store" some..but my freezer will be full have the steer is done this month and I was hoping to can quarts of the squash like I have canned potatoes in the past.

My Blue Book doesn't give directions for canning Winter squash but if I was going to pressure can butternut squash I would peel it, cube it up & pack in hot jars as tight as I could, add boiling water so there is 1 inch of head space. Wipe rim of jars, adjust lids & rings & pressure can for 40 minutes at 10 pounds of pressure. Then when I wanted to use it I would pour a jar in a strainer to get out as much water & moisture as possible. Mash & heat up, add butter brown sugar, etc. to taste. That's how I've done sweet potatoes & they came out great. |
I can't thank you enough Katie!!! That's exactly what I'm going to do this week. I really .. really appreciate the canning advice. I was starting to get paranoid about all the squash sitting here..lol. I was hoping it was a little like canning potatoes.
|
The squash should keep for a couple months if you have a cool dry place to store it if you don't want to can it all or get tired of peeling.
